ICE PELLETS?? So sick of winter.
More commonly known as sleet… or also sometimes called graupel depending on the situation.
But yeah! It’s freakin spring! Where’s the spring like temperatures? These days we’re lucky to get anything over 55.

ParticipantPer http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatology/daily/USDC0001 :
Average low temp for the 21st of March in DC: 39 degrees.
Todays predicted high: 37 degrees.
I disapprove. 😡

ParticipantI think what makes it worse is that, this week last year saw temps in the mid-70s, with several days in the 80s throughout the month. So in February, I was telling myself “just gotta get to March, then it’ll be nice” and now that’s out the window and I keep telling myself “just gotta make it April, then it’ll be nice”. The North Atlantic Oscillation is at the top of my s$#tlist right now.

ParticipantLast year was an anomaly (or a harbinger of global warming, you choose).
According the the National Weather Service at DCA, normal weather to date is 3509 heating degree days, this year we have 3232 and last year we had 2739. For March, it has been a bit cooler than normal with 418 heating degree days so far compared to 401 normally.
I’d be cool with it if only the damned wind would stop!

Dislike. Not your post, but what is found in the link. Just say no to atmospheric blocking patterns.

Nice! Pulling out meteorological data is always good. Like Dana’s data show above, this winter hasn’t been exceptionally cold. I think the problem is that it’s been so irritatingly consistent. I don’t have any data to back me up, but usual winters it seems like we’ll have cold days and warm days. A day in the 20’s followed a few days later by a day in the 50s, 60s, or even 70s with variations in between. This year has been SO consistent! Lows in the 20-30s, highs in the 40s. With VERY little variation from that.
The monotony is what’s getting to me. I would gladly take a day in the teens if that means we’ll also get a day where we hit 65.

Oh, we had days in the teens. I. DID. NOT. LIKE. THEM.

ParticipantSome good news out of NOAA. Let’s hope they’re right, although I don’t have much faith in seasonal forecasts. Of all the forecasts, they’re probably the worst.
