I saw this linked on the Critical Mass Facebook page and started to compose a vicious rant about all the things wrong with that sort of attitude. A few sentences in I deleted it realizing how pointless that was. These folks represent the thinking of what, 40% of the US population? Culture war anyone ?

I’m wholly impressed with the cyclist’s calm demeanor. I know I would not have been able to stay that calm and measured as he was given the absurd vitriol being tossed in his face for absolutely no reason. Good for him for being the adult and not taking the bait.

I have run across this sort of behavior before. I actually stopped to take the picture of a delivery truck parked completely across one of the green painted bike lanes in Clarendon and was berated by a young couple who told me I was the problem. They continued to express that my actions are what prevented them from respecting cyclists, apparently being concerned for my own safety and the safety of other cyclists is more offensive than the illegal truck driver. I always wondered how relaxed they would have been if the truck blocked their access to the Starbucks or their parking garage. Video cam on my holiday wish list!

Every morning near the beginning of the L street before it turns into a cycle track, this truck blocks the lane and forces me into traffic. I am going up this ramp eventually, just have not had the perfect opportunity yet. But if he keeps parking here, I’m going up the ramp.

These people really are a lost cause. Ugh. I laughed out loud when they whipped out their iphones to try to “gotcha” the cyclist for being on the sidewalk. When it comes to the Smiths in general?? Oh sweet Jesus… Ain’t nobody got time for that!

I do not know where to begin with this – from the ignorance about where the cycle track is, to the irony about “minding your own business” to the fact that individual in question is a relatively prominent AGW denier.

Another good reason to have a helmet cam, though.
