You didn’t take the day off for delivery of your new bike?!? Good god, man, get your priorities straight.

I wasn’t expecting it until Monday, and my wife works at home on Monday. Plus I work with federal accountants and this is fiscal year end and I already worked at home one day this week with a sick child.

But won’t bringing it home on the cargo bike make up for it? I feel like that makes up for it.

If it happens we’ll give you a pass.

I might need to borrow some tie-downs.

Box should be approximately this size…maybe bigger because it’s coming with wheels.

How many places can you see a bike left on a front stoop like that still be there when you get home from work? Maybe the bike thieves don’t do assembly?

Well, in East Westover you can leave unassembled bikes on a porch in safety, but not on the mean streets of West Westover.

Question – do you think I can get a box with a bike in it on the back of the Xtracycle? It only has to go maybe 6 blocks.

That’s a cargo bike joke, right? One box? 25 pounds? 6 blocks?

    :-)

So I walked the bike home, but it did go on the back of the cargo bike, technically.

I’d recommend pulling the bottom bracket and re-lubing if necessary, and tightening the cog and lockring. May not be an absolute immediate concern, but probably a good idea before you put serious miles on it.

What’s the going rate for forum members helping other forum members do that?

I reckon those with the tools, the skills, the time, and the inclination to help would probably do so for a six pack of cold ones or a couple of IOU drinks at a happy hour.

You could also go to a bike coop and learn to do it for free or a small suggested donation for stand time and tool usage– like Bike House in DC or Velocity in Del Ray/Alexandria.

That’s a good idea. Bike House at Annie’s Hardware is maybe a mile from my house. Now I just need some pedals…

Just take a 15mm wrench to the nearest bike rack. There should be plenty to choose from. ;)
