ParticipantThat’s like going to the racetrack to ask if you should gamble some more, but YES! I think there is no reason you should not.
Good luck.

ParticipantI mean, if I were looking for someone to talk me out of it I could always ask my wife

ParticipantBuy it
But check the geometry. It looks like it is probably 2cm longer? (Geometry for the Pinarello doesn’t seem to show the ETT, buy maybe I am missing it). Anyway, 20mm can be accommodated by stem, etc. But it is possible the smaller size would fit better if you want a similar position. (The 54 Pinarello has 56cm TT; the 57 Bianchi also has a 56cm TT, though not sure if those are apples – to – apples.)

ParticipantI don’t think I want the same position. In fact, I think I might have to replace the bars if I get this bike. Maybe it’s a funny angle in the photo, or maybe the curve of those bars is an abomination. Either way I think some track drops would look nice.

ParticipantNice bike, good luck on the bid. Looked on Pinarello’s website, 58 seat tube = 58 top tube. I ride the same size frame for bikes with many gears or one gear. I’ve ridden track drops before and prefer compact road drops, I find track drops are too deep. Also note you can only mount cross brake levers on track drops, you can’t mount brakes with hoods because of the forward sweep / curve of the bars:

ParticipantShockingly, you all are pushing me towards getting the bike. I knew I could count on you.

ParticipantMy Volpe was pretty upright, so I suspect yours is the same and you could go with a slightly longer TT and still be comfortable. Of course, you’ll be in a more aggressive position, but I think that’s kinda the point…and like Hans said, you can compensate with the stem if the reach is too far. Looks like the stem that’s on it is pretty long (maybe 120mm?), so you could drop down to a 100 or 90mm, which won’t look like a stub. FWIW, I’m not a fan of track drops, partly because of aesthetics and partly because, well….aesthetics. The drops in the photo look decent enough though. It’s also interesting that the frame has rear brake cable guides…I mean, I guess you could keep the rear brake, but it’s cooler without
and easier to swap out bars when you only have the front brake to worry about.

ParticipantCons: aggressive bikes—or aggressive purpose bikes—are often/usually sized on the smaller end of things for shorter chainstays, twitchier/whippier handling, and a more aggressive/aero riding position. If I knew for a fact that I could get this bike in a size smaller, with all else being equal—and the assumption of aggressive use—I would.
Pros: As Greenbelt, bikenurse, and Dirt can tell you, my go-to commuter bike (Valentine the Inschwinnerator) is about an inch and a half too big for me—as in, I only have an inch of seatpost, and I’ve learned from experience to ALWAYS lean the bike over a bit before getting off over the top tube. ALWAYS. And yet, it works. Bikelust knows opportunities taken, regret opportunities missed (or something like that).
If need be, I’ll even supply you with a nebulously founded and entirely personal opinion that Italian bikes are generally oversized a bit so you can tell yourself the truth: this bike is perfect for you, and you should get it.

ParticipantOh how badly I want to bid against you…. that bike has been on my wish list as well, although I prefer the black. I will refrain as long as you are bidding. Good luck sir!

ParticipantI had my eye on the black, too, but sometimes you make do.

ParticipantEvery model of bike should have a black option every model year. No exceptions. 😡

ParticipantIt does have a black option, just not on eBay. If I want to pay the full price ($1100) I can get black.
Which brings me to my next question – how much should I be willing to pay? It’s listed at $599 plus $40 shipping, coming from a bike shop with 100% positive feedback. It’s a couple years old but never sold.

ParticipantBicycleBlueBook.com Value:$531 (Like-New)
Although, I think this might be a little low for a brand like Pinarello. If it’s a 2012, that means it probably came out in late 2011, which makes it three years old at this point.
Maybe 60% of new list price, which it’s pretty close to right now with shipping.
Bethel Cycle seems pretty legit.
There’s also this cute little link on the Pinarello page:
http://www.pinarello.com/en/genuine-pinarello-dealers-2013-put-a-face-to-the-name-4-rules-to-detect-a-false-pinarelloIf you decide to buy a used Pinarello via the INTERNET, and it is not possible to visit the seller, it is crucial you request the PINARELLO SERIAL NUMBER which is located under the bottom bracket. In addition request for a photo of this serial number and a copy of the Official Pinarello Warranty Documents. A quick cross-check via one of our Pinarello Points can immediately verify if the Frame is Original or False.
We have analyzed several FALSE frames which have been confiscated via International Customs Authorities. These frames have been passed through the most elementary of resistance testing. The results showed worrying structural failures that can cause serious damage and / or death to the rider.
