The IOD may actually become less doomy at some point in our lifetime. Should we survive that long.

No tunnel or overpass, but some interesting details.

It’s already like 5 years behind schedule, so your skepticism on living long enough is well considered. Tunnel is not the ideal solution for lots of reasons. Someday I will write another blog post on why.

So…an upgrade from the “Intersection of Doom” to the “Intersection of Eugh.” There certainly is something to be said about the incrementalist approach.

Since I have to tussle with the IOD twice daily, what’s being proposed ought to help a fair bit I think. While it isn’t full on “avoid mixing at all” options (bridge, tunnel etc.), they seem achievable even with the jurisdiction issues. I’ll take that over nothing.

Having more room for staging the crossing, better visibility of the trail traffic from Roosevelt, and the shorter distance to cross sounds pretty great. Plus I’m all for mitigating the Custis squeezing that happens as you get closer to Rosslyn. There tends to be a lot of ped traffic at that point that we have to pass at speed and not having to avoid a power box when passing would be nice.
