    Welcome aboard!

I went to college in Chattanooga and did a few triathlons in that area myself! That was a long time ago and I don’t race anymore, but good luck on your preparations.

Welcome! You should ride when it’s below freezing, too. Layers, some of them wool, and you’re all good.

Hi, I’m Teresea. I’m not new to riding/bike commuting but I’m new to this forum!

I commute from Fairlington into DC (12th and Independence SW) on days where it’s above freezing on my Jamis cyclocross and ride my Orbea road bike for fun as often as possible. I’m competing in Ironman Chattanooga this year and would love some company on the monotonous loops I plan to make around Hains Point before heading home in the afternoons. Or mornings if I’m so inspired!

You had me at Hains Point loops. My HP loops tend to be after 6 in the evening though. Welcome to the forum.

You may know about it, but if you are comfortable riding in a group, the Hains Point Hammerfest rides at 6:30am (in warmer weather) on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They might switch to 6am. When the season gets going, that is a hard ride. These days it is off and on (Tue and Weds this week) and in slower winter mode (speeds in low 20s). They often split into an A and B group when it ramps up. There is a Facebook group to join. Anyway, it is a good wko and good group of guys & gals.

Didn’t seem like it was the low 20’s this morning when The EnthusiGator whipped past me as I was going 17 to 18ish.

Ha – yeah, I wasn’t there, but generally when there are posted speeds lately they top out at 24mph (or less). But it was warm, so maybe folks are glad to get off their trainers.

Most of the racer types were pretty shot out of the cannon today. Just looked at Greg’s speeds from this morning and the pace hit 28-30 by the last lap. There was a pretty good group out this morning and the winds were pretty favorable. Just looked at my speeds and I did around 16 on the frontside into the wind and 18-19 on the backside on my commuter bike with a backpack on, which is faster than normal for me. It’s amazing what a warm day can do.

I wouldn’t be able to keep up for any significant sustained amount of time with the Hammerfest folks, but generally they’re a friendly and courteous bunch.
