GuestSorry, Fairfax County not Arlington.
Fort Hunt Rd turning right onto Rt.1/Richmond hwy northbound, immediately before the exit ramp to 495. There is a sidepath along Rt. 1 that crosses the beltway and gets you into old town from areas south. Traffic from Fort Hunt heading either north into NoVa or onto the beltway turns right across that path onto Rt. 1.

Quick poll: do people think a sign, such as the digital traffic sign below, instructing drivers to look for peds/bikes would be helpful in the interim?(reply)
A single sign: marginally useful. But if you install three such signs, one blocking each lane of the I-66 offramp, then you might be onto something…

I’m not a big fan of these signs — it is a temporary solution only. Once the sign is gone, the old behavior will come back.
A sign like this makes sense when there is a temporary change in traffic patterns, or an event, that requires a temporary warning. Not for a permanent change.

Completely agree with you. It will be weeks possibly a couple months before there is a no-turn-on-red sign. In the interim, we have a temporary problem: bikes and peds should be going with the LPI, but drivers are generally looking left. The sign would be a temporary solution for the temporary problem: to remind drivers to look right before turning.

That is a scary place to cross. I’ve been there, and I didn’t like it. Be careful.

Fair enough. Then it makes sense.

Is there an explanation for why it takes months to put up a sign?

My understanding is that the review time for working out agreements with VDOT takes time.

Plus it takes time to order and get the sign. Unfortunately, these sorts of things are not on Amazon Prime.
