There are no fewer than three signs plus the light at that intersection. Many people manage to ignore them and still endanger people in the cross walks. Not sure one more sign is going to make much of a difference. I’m happy that they put it up though.

On the good side of things, I’ve had fewer near-death experiences at that intersection this year than any year before. That makes me a little happy. :D

Right on red is legal there. If you want to stop right on red there, you’ll have to convince VDOT that there is more to transportation than moving as many cars as fast as possible. Let me know how that goes.

Looks like they’ve got them working just fine now.

As per the usual with stories even remotely related to bikes, the comments section is mostly just a lot of sarcastic hate directed toward cyclists. Well let’s hope all these people who have crappy commutes to a job they hate and feel the need to vent their anger at mostly happy cyclists get it all out now.

Hmm. It says they had police doing traffic control. Maybe the solution is to set the lights on fire every day?

Me and my big mouth, they were working on them when I went through on my way home, a flashing yellow for the exit ramp/Lee Highway and flashing red for Lynn St. Not a police officer in sight to help manage the resulting chaos.

The crossing lights at Lynn were stuck on red when I went through this morning. Not good.

There have been some cyclists balancing out the comments section in recent weeks. (I’ve contributed to the cause as well.) The funny thing is that when there’s a story about an aggressive driver, people go on and on in the same manner about the crazy D.C./Arlington area drivers. It’s a mix of some mischief, boredom, bile, “get off my lawn,” and some outright hatred, but of many groups and issues, not just cyclists. A few take themselves too seriously but many of the others seem to be mischief makers/Internet warriors.

I didn’t do too well on the SATs, but: Cats are to Robot Overlords as Arlnow.com is to “Kalima Kalima!” from Indiana Jones.

If you have free time on your hand, influence people whose opinion matter. ARLNOW comments is a troll tank. Instead, contact the county board; write your member of Congress; write a letter to the editor; start a blog or contribute to a blog; review a NPS EIS….. whatever. But dont feed the trolls.

Yeah, the red hand was ever present. Right now I can see that at least northbound to the Key Bridge on Lynn, the walk light is again working (I’m two blocks away and can see the signal from my office window).

Saw that too. I left later than usual this morning and it was a m-e-s-s! I was waiting at the back of a fairly large group (~10 cyclists) waiting to cross. About 3-4 cyclists started crossing. Two others stopped dead, seeing impatient looking cars edging up. I stopped. Some cars went. Two other cyclists from behind started going. Some cars stopped. I started going, and didn’t look back. Don’t know if the whole group made it.

It surprises me how often there’s problems with the light, given how essential a piece of infrastructure it is. The crossing is problematic enough when the light works!

Arlington Dep Environ Services says they are sending someone out to look at this.

Arlington Dept Environ Services is on twitter as @arlingtondes and they do respond.
