ParticipantGot an email notification last night that my Oi bell is finally on its way. I’d completely forgotten about it.

I received one too. I had just about given up and was contemplating contacting them to cancel.

ParticipantMine should be here any day – it arrived at JFK on Monday (via DHL) after spending two weeks in Germany.

ParticipantI got the email yesterday too. I was also nearing writing it off. Hopefully they fixed all the issues experienced by the early adopters.

Just wait ’till you mount it up and it rattles over every bump, and it still makes a THUNK noise when you try to use it!
Seriously, KNOG boogered this one up, big time.

Seems as likely as not, but then, my Incredibell goes “thunk” whenever it’s wet from rain. I mean, how long has the human race been manufacturing bells that folks are still making bells that don’t ring?

I’ve never looked it up, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the origin of the verb “to damp,” meaning to suppress vibration or oscillation, had something to do with a wet bell of some kind.

Just put a teeny tiny umbrella on it. Problem solved!

Apparently if KNOG has anything to do with it, the bell’s function as a signaling device is secondary to swoopy dee-zign. Mine is pretty worthless in garnering any sort of attention from other trail users. Stick with boring old Incredibells or $$$purCycle. Or, make Jan Heine warm and fuzzy and get some fancy Japanese brass bell crafted by Shaolin Monks.

While adequate, I do wish the striker was stiffer and like every other bell I’ve tried, they don’t work in the rain.
I would not say they’re the best bells ever, but I haven’t found either my large or small Oi bell dissappointing.

ParticipantI use a horn rather than a bell. It works in the rain. It even has a reasonable prospect of alerting those with headphones. However, I always call out first, because I don’t want the horn to startle anyone who actually is paying attention.

ParticipantReceived mine last week although I didn’t open the package until today.
Short version: I’m underwhelmed.
Slightly longer version – it’s sleek for sure but doesn’t look as cool and slick as it did in the video. And it’s not very loud.
BUT, it was a birthday present and I’ll put it on my gravel bike (not my everyday commuter).

I got mine too. Raymo nailed all the faults of the bell. I think it’s awful. Mine rings quietly with a secondary dull thud because the hammer vibrates and strikes more than once. It rings itself when the road is rough because the mount contacts are so loose. The plastic feels chintzy (for $30 I was expecting an aluminum mount or something) but it’s also so thick I can’t fit it close to my shifters, so it’s out of reach without moving hands from normal riding position… yuck. Gonna see if I can’t return it and get some money back.

Mine are supposed to arrive today. Maybe I should just return to sender?
