It’s very, very pretty. But I wonder if it’s a bit high-pitched for elder-people to hear, or for those wearing earbuds. Maybe because of my small stature I prefer a deeper sound that gives me presence, e.g. when I am ringing it to alert inattentive drivers, like those who sit through the left turn signal ‘cause they’re too busy on their phones. I’m not sure this bell would do the trick in those instances. Does anyone use more than one bell, selecting the tone that best meets the circumstances?
Like this?

FastFriendlyGuy has a police whistle pinned to his jersey for such situations.

Ha, yes, verbal is variable, and – for those who haven’t ridden with me – I’m actually very verbal when passing or crossing. I yell my thank you’s to drivers extremely loud, ‘cause I want the whole world to know how much we appreciate courteous drivers. And I yell even louder when I think I might die.
But there are some situations where a high decibel low-pitched bell would help, like when you’re behind a vehicle rather than in front. Or when you’re trying to penetrate into the earbuds of a jogger who’s not responding to your calls (or three joggers across!). Or when you’re competing with a streamed episode of whatever it is people watch on their phones. I already look and sound like a pip-squeak, so I don’t need a gentle, pretty little bell to do the same … for those situations, talking will do just fine.

Whenever I see a whistle-using cyclist I can’t help but think of the Fred Armisen character.

Not that fastfriendlyguy is at all like that.

ParticipantI received an email on the 8th confirming my shipping address for a couple of Oi bells I ordered back in April. Hopefully they’ll arrive by the end of the month.

ParticipantI’m not in a hurry or anything, but I will say Knog seems to have pretty well clustered this up. Now they’re saying late November because there was a problem with the spring in the bell. At least they’re fixing them rather than shipping defective ones out.

ParticipantMy bells arrived earlier this month. I like them, but I do feel the striker spring is a little weak

It’s interesting that they’ve had so many problems sine they are an established company. I’d rather just have them throw the spring in the box at this point and fix it myself.

Interesting. If you have eventually have a problem with your spring, this is the email I received.
“Dear Oi Pre-orderer,
First of all, thank you for your order – we genuinely appreciate your support and trust.
We wanted to have the bells in your hands by now, and have heard some of your frustrations so want to explain the hold up.
We identified a quality issue with a small number of small bells. There was a problem with one part – a spring – and this meant the bell thudded, rather than “chimed”. So we stopped shipments to our Kickstarter backers in order to fix it, and this has obviously nudged back the production and delivery of the pre–orders (i.e. yours). The new delivery schedule is now estimated to be the last half of November. This includes completing Kickstarter orders, then Production – Pick, pack & send – Transit of yours.
We realise this isn’t the timing you want, but we trust you would rather know the detail.
Thanks for your patience,”

ParticipantI was kinda confused by lack of a shipping update after that last Oi Bell email blast so I wrote their help – turns out those of us who ordered one back whenever we were talking about it a few months ago or whatever, were not part of the original shipment, which went out only to the kickstarters. Our shipment is expected to go out 3 weeks from now or so…

Emphasis on the “so…”. I checked the spam folder after the last email and concluded that they were probably referring to the early adopters.

ParticipantI received my Spurcycle quickly and I love it! Very well made and easy to install on my irregularly shaped handlebar. Easy to ring and generally gets people’s attention on the trails (earbud wearing joggers are hopeless). So far this kickstarter is a winner. Disclaimer: I haven’t had a chance to see how it rings in the rain so I’m holding off an unqualified endorsement until I do.
P.S. They have graduated from Kickstarter.
