The value is not the MVT – Ohio Dr part (though, of course, that’s necessary for the rest). The biggest value is connecting LBP to MVT; Ohio Dr to Maine Ave; LBP to Ohio; LBP to Maine; MVT to Maine (if that makes sense). You could only concentrate on Ohio to Maine, but the end result, assuming we get everything we want, would be a disjointed zig zag to get from LBP to Maine. We have the opportunity for a straight shot – let’s go for that.

Oh, and the 14th St Bridge sidepath is pretty close to capacity. Adding capacity is smart.

Okay. Building all the way to Maine Ave. is pretty ambitious, but I’m on board. Why not all the way to that Maryland Avenue circle…or even L’Enfant Plaza while we’re at it?

Because the rail line goes underground at that point – the bridge MUP is only feasible because the rail bridge needs to be rebuilt anyway, and the added cost for the MUP is not that high (note it is not guaranteed at this point that they will include a MUP, IIUC). Not sure what the cost to connect the bridge MUP to Maryland Circle would be, I suppose DDOT could look at it, but I think it would be a separate project from the Long Bridge. Just as the Maine Avenue PBL will be a separate project.
