I’m not working on BTWD. What should I do?

Go to as many pit stops as you can and pick up only free swag that your wife won’t notice. Your attendance at the pit stops helps raise awareness and promotes cycling in the area. Also lots of your friends will be there. You could also volunteer to escort new cyclists from near your home to wherever they work.

That’s my plan since I don’t have to go to work anymore. But I may need some new water bottles anyway.

I think BPAC is looking for volunteers for the Del Ray pit stop. Contact them.

You hoard bike stuff you don’t need or use?! Don’t you know there are children starving in Africa? people who would graciously need and use those things?

Consider selling your extra things here. Or Craigslist. Or freecycle.com.

I would like to encourage people to think of BTWD less about how much free swag you can cash in on ~ and more about how you can use the day to advocate for cycling.

Example: Yes, get a bunch of BTWD water bottles or something ~ and then give them to management at your office or agency – you know, the people in charge of buying and installing bike racks.

Example: Score swag, bring it to your office or agency, and hold your own event or raffle. Use BTWD to encourage others in your office to join in what you know is the bestest most wonderfulest timest of your dayest.

If I weren’t already a cyclist, I don’t think I would hear about BTWD. Your hear about it on media on the day of but not before. I sent around an email to my office at work on the day after one of the metro calamities and encouraged people to think about relieving their mode dependency and got more takers than I usually do. (Usually, I get zero and this time I got 2 or 3 out of 30.)

When I ride over the crowded bridges in the morning, I wonder how many of those drivers know about BTWD. Imagine giant bikes with funny signs strapped to them hyping people up to try BTWD.

Is there a BTWD poster that lists the cool things happening? Its a little late, but I could hang it at some of the Gold’s around.

Did you check the Bike to Work Day website? I will admit I do not like the official publicity (which is covered in advertisements) and usually make my own.

BTWD is more than just an excuse to encourage staff to cycle. I annually use the event as an excuse to engage management and discuss our “Bike Friendly Business” status. I am fortunate to have great management and I use BTWD to make sure management knows that we are grateful.
