Right around Christmas, Santa should be bringing me a Klatch with custom gearing, paint colors, and a dyno hub. Set up as a touring bike, but with big capacity for fat tires to get the heck off the roads.

Gift courtesy of an insurance settlement from my crash in September. The elves are working on it right now.

Santa is bringing me a Garmin Varia radar tail light. I may need to play around with mounting a bit since I have a rack and trunk bag on my main commuter, but I’m confident with some creativity and zip ties I will find a way to make it work.

I’ve asked Santa for the below. I highlighted that it is $400 off on Cyber Monday.

That is an insane deal! If you still have room on your wish list, I’d recommend immediately swapping the stock tires for Schwalbe Big Apples.

Failing that, there’s something like this: https://www.shapeways.com/product/L6VSGUY4E/garmin-varia-rack-mount-style-2?optionId=61176085

Santa delivered new rain gear to me a little early (he didn’t want me to have to drag it home across the Atlantic – so thoughtful of him!)

I’ve got a smart phone mount, salsa cowchipper bars, lizard skin tape, and a craftsman beam torque wrench.

But the big item I am asking for is $200 in gift cert money from a lbs to use toward a pair of winter cycling boots. I’ve got my eyes on the specialized defroster trail boots.

No new bike for me this year [emoji19].

Nice. Winter cycling boots were an excellent addition to my gear. They’ve been great for the days it gets into the 30s or less.

I picked up a pair of Defrosters before last winter. They are good and warm. Specialized claims they run large so you don’t need to size up for bulky socks. I did not find that to be the case. They fit with winter socks, but tighter than I would like.

Thanks for the insight. I visited Spokes to try on Specialized shoes for size, and the rep told me they run in odd sizes. 9.6, 10.6, etc. I wear a 9.5 street shoe, so I want to be sure I don’t go too big and lose my feet in the shoe.

I love my Defrosters. They are the boots I wear when temps are well below freezing. Compared to their other shoes, I agree with the idea that they are larger — less tight with thicker socks. My S-Works MTB shoes of same nominal size are quite tight with winter-thickness socks but the boots feel fine. I have generally found little correlation between my US shoe size and the claimed equivalent US size. I wear a 13 Asics, Keen (or Clarks 12EE) and 48 (regular) in Specialized shoes.

    Specialized makes great shoes.

For winter cycling boots, I have the old equivalent to the Shimano MW5s, but I can only wear them when it gets down to 20 or below; otherwise, my feet get too hot. The regular sizing seemed to work for me. They have lasted 8 years or so now, probably because they see such limited use. Western Bike Works has them on sale for $180, btw.

Bike for sale you say? I know a guy that likes buying bikes and also just found out that he has a very large bike room available to him.

It is your size. I will email you a pic. It’s on CL for $200, but I only paid $300 for it so *for you* I can go way lower, but only because you are the Lumberjack and you’re okay
