    Photos of my new cast, post surgery, that I’m stuck with for six weeks due to a broken thumb beneath the second joint:

    Turns out the plastic underside, which was molded by the rehab folks using hot water and a heat gun, can be easily manipulated by a hair dryer thus saving me a trip back to the hospital for an adjustment (the sidewall was hitting one of my pins). I’m really surprised it only required a couple of minutes of heating to make the material very malleable.

    I guess this means sunbathing is out of the question – my arm would melt.

    And on a side note, with all of the amazing techniques done in the operating room, this is the best science can come up with in terms of splints and casts? Talk about old world. Where am I going to stick my rhinestones?! Why can’t it be fake fur lined?

    Thanks. I am currently speared like a kebob. When I get the pins out I’m thinking of hammering them into the boardwalk to warn the troll that I’ll be back to get revenge. Hell has no fury like a woman off her bike….

    Awesome S Africa pics by the way. Don’t envy the flying you had to do to get there though.

    If I were you, I’d be getting a lot of mileage out of inviting attractive men to sign my cast. I’m almost jealous. And I’m truly jealous if I could have your pain killer prescription.

    So, work it like you need to money, Girl.

    And honestly– relieved the surgery went well and the pins are holding. Get better fast, but not fast enough to kick my ass this fall.

    Feel better soon, and you should certainly bedazzle the crap out of that cast. I love essigmw’s idea of a “happy hour signing session”….let’s get on that! For what it is worth I suggest a really good 20yr old scotch to sooth the pain each night.

    Agreed – we should get that happy hour thing going!

    I’m still in Kansas City riding up and down hills and picking up some barbeque sauce, but now is a good time to start letting me know if you can join us on August 16.
