ParticipantDo you think the side pass on TR will be open during the filming this Sunday (May 5)? Any chance of getting in the movie?

ParticipantLooks like I’ll be going to the crystal city bike to work week party every morning then.

ParticipantTrail was closed this morning @ 9:30, with an orange safety cone with a note on it from PEPCO. It was at the top of the ramp where the bridge actually starts on the VA side. Would have been nice to have earlier notice, but it was a nice day to turn around and go to Key Bridge. Some went past cone and then turned back. It was open this evening. Signage says closures Mon thru Friday this week. Perhaps 9 to 3:30 as stated in the email. I hope they trim/tame the bushes from TR Island while path is closed. I’ll go Mem Bridge tomorrow via Arlington Cemetery.

Cones were still there, but bridge was open this morning as I rode through around 730am.

Interesting. I went through there around 9:50am yesterday, and it was open. There were workers and an open manhole, but I could easily scoot by. Didn’t see any indication there was a closing or detour. Going home there was no indication of anything.
This morning, went through just before 11am. There was a sign on the troll bridge, but it wasn’t legible unless you stopped and got close to it (I didn’t). It was leaning against the middle of the divider between the “to DC” fork and the “along the river” fork. No arrows or anything else that would have gotten someone to read it. It was also white. I thought it might be directions for a hike/run.
At the top of the hill, there were workers working on a transformer that was beside the bath. Their equipment was in the road, blocking a lane. They had some equipment that implied they might need to close the trail, but what they were doing when I passed was completely off-path. There was a cone just passed the work (towards DC) with another printed sign. Again, very small print, white paper, nothing to get anyone’s attention. Nothing on the DC side of the bridge.
On the plus side, they seem to be letting people through when possible. On the VERY HUGE minus side, they seemed to have missed the message on what’s required to close the bridge (detour signs AT LYNN & LEE and ON THE DC SIDE OF THE BRIDGE (preferably on VA Ave)). Tim, can you reach out? Thanks!

Participant…or at least I hope so. I called Adrian at PEPCO at the number posted in the first message in this thread by Tim. I did not know if the access plate on the sidewalk where the bridge crosses TR Island was temporary or permanent, but noted to him that it was raised substantially like 2+ inches above the sidewalk surface. It looks temporary to me, or else is really poor permanaent. Adrian will check, but he indicated that is should be temporary and that a permanent repair should be flush w/ sidewalk. This is on his radar and he will check with his crew. He indicated that the work time is 9:30 – 3:30 for any possible closures. Other than that, was fine and clear (‘cept the encroaching jungle growth) when I passed at 8:40am today. I cross late at night generally — no issues this week.
Be safe. JOHNJune 4, 2013 at 1:33 pm #971802thucydides
ParticipantDo you think Pepco meant to leave that ladder strapped to the bridge (it lowers to some sort of platform)? It’s been there for quite a while now and looks like an engraved invitation for mischief. Graffitti at the least.

ParticipantPepco is playing in the manholes in the sidewalk today. The sidewalk is closed and may be marked as closed on the west end at the MVT.

ParticipantAt about 5:15 they had the trail blocked in the middle of the bridge, with no warning signs on the DC side and a non-sensical sign on the VA side. I had a nice walk in the blocked traffic lane of the TR Bridge tonight.

Oh please… that’s perfectly clear. They want you to use the other side of the TR bridge. That’s why they build sidewalks on both sides of the bridge…. so that we could use either side. Right?!?!?

The wooden walkway connects to something? I thought it was the bridge to nowhere from your photo.

ParticipantJust seems like it is an issue of having the right equipment to me….
