This also highlights the need to connect the EB side’s “sidewalk to nowhere” to the MVT. The EB side would actually be my preferred route, since it would be a more direct shot to my office on the DC side of the river.
Ha! I’d never noticed that:
Wide, wonderful sidewalk to… nowhere

Funny, but if it’s possible to get there by mistake, a serious safety issue for lost pedestrians, such as the one headed that way in the picture.

This is the other end of that sidewalk, and the first real opportunity to leave it the path before getting to the bridge.

Yes, it’s horrible. It should have a sign. It doesn’t.

No problem then. That A-frame Traffic Barrier makes it clear not to go that way…

ParticipantThe southside sidewalk is a nice pleasant stroll. Just a quick fording of the GW parkway to Roosevelt bridge ramp on foot. It’s a lot better than that northside sidewalk with all those damn speeding cyclists.

ParticipantWhy you all insist on bringing up horrible, horrible memories of my very first day in Washington, DC at the tender age of 20 is beyond me.
By the way, I do know the most direct, as the crow flies, way to get from the Kennedy Center to the Iwo Jima Memorial. Unfortunately, my classmate and I were not crows.

ParticipantJust in case, please point out to Pepco that May 17 would be the absolutely worst possible day of the year for this.

But heaven forbid we do anything to encourage cycling, like give permits for BikeDC! Still 😡 about that even though I doubt I’ll be back on the bike by then!

ParticipantFYI–this work is slated to begin the week of 5/13.
However, there is good news! Pepco is willing to stop work on 5/17 in order to accommodate cyclists on Bike to Work Day.

That’s Bike to Work Week at at least 2 employers in Foggy Bottom. (The Fed and State). We have lots of people who flex on Fridays, so we try to do the whole week. It would be great if they can wait a week. Or at least pledge to not start until 10am.

Tim uses his amazing powers to change the ways of a major corporation. We are in the presence of greatness!
Seriously, thanks for the help.
