No longer will I feel bad about wearing comfortable, ankle-length socks that make me look like a tri-dork.
Likewise, I will now wear my sleeveless jerseys all summer long without fear of mockery. I may also precede a ride with a swim or follow it with a run, all without undue shame.

Participant“pay attention to the nuances of quick-release lever position”????
There are nuances??? Who knew?!

I was almost baited into responding to this one…

Sometimes I… wear my running gear instead of cycling garb when biking casually.

ParticipantPretty much the only rule in The List I find useful is Rule #5. We have adopted it as quick shorthand in my house for many non bike related situations. It carries with it the spirit of cycling even when used in such contexts though.
Rules 2, 3, and (sometimes) 6 are pretty good too. And rule #10, though that is a quote that lives on its own I guess.

ParticipantRule 9 deserves to stay. That is the basis for freezing saddles (at least my interpretation of it).

ParticipantI like to put duct tape over the toe area vents in my shoes for winter. Equally effective at warmth and removing any doubt where I stand…

ParticipantI’m just going to repeat something I said here earlier. If I want not to look like a hobo, I get off my bike, take a shower, put on a suit, and style my hair. Until that point, no matter what I do, I’m going to be sweaty, disheveled, and helmet-haired, so making sure that everything is official kit and properly matching is not a priority. YMMV, of course.

ParticipantI have been known to show up at meetings with helmet marks across my forehead. I propose a new rule to counter this unsightly effect: No meetings before 10:00 am! This gives hair a chance to dry out too.

ParticipantMethinks the author is taking things a bit too seriously.
“Back when they first emerged — founders Frank Strack and Brett Kennedy launched in 2009, I think — the context was different. In the beginning, the list was shorter and served two purposes — to codify some roadie traditions and to simultaneously mock those same traditions. It was, in my mind, both a reference manual of sorts and a tongue-in-cheek joke.”
It’s still this and if the author is riding with people that are attempting to “enforce” the rules, then he can easily find a different group of people to ride with.

ParticipantThe only thing funnier than the rules are those people who get bent into a cringle about the rules.
Long live the Rules. Rule #1: Obey the rules.
Rule #5. Can I get an Amen?

No kidding. I have always read the rules as mostly satire on top of grains of truth. Author needs to Rule 5 his Internet reading.

Or truth on top of satire.
And remember what Greg LeMan (who is revered by the Velominati … and I count myself as one) said, “Rules were meant to be broken.”

Except , of course, by Lance Armstrong.

Years ago a Bike Rack DC Sunday ride, my duct tape shoe covers were a source of gossip in their double paceline.
