This talk tonight at Bicycle Space AdMo sounds interesting:

Making Cycling Irresistible: Lessons from Western Europe and North America

May 30th 7:30pm BicycleSPACE Adams Morgan

This presentation provides an overview of cycling’s boom in cities in Western Europe, the USA, and Canada over the last two decades. The presentation first discusses trends in cycling levels, cycling safety, cycling infrastructure, bike parking, the integration of cycling with public transportation, and the promotion of cycling for all groups. Next, it highlights factors that have contributed to these increasing cycling levels. The presentation emphasizes that cities seeking to expand cycling beyond those who are highly trained, extremely fit, and daring enough to battle traffic on busy roads need to make city cycling feasible, convenient, and safe for commutes to work and school, shopping trips, visits, and other daily transportation needs. It highlights how successful promotion of city cycling depends on coordinating infrastructure, promotional programs, and government policies.
