ParticipantMosaic has turned into a decent area, surprisingly. I thought Freshbikes would be kind of marooned there, but it’s not a bad location. Getting there by bike is quite safe:

So, Dress Up Funtime Starts at 6:30? Is this a formal presentation with a group of 20-somethings wandering around in winter wear kit, or was that just my rich and vivid fantasy world? In other words, is there a formal presentation or can I just drop in and look around before drifting off for pizza across the street?
This is going to be a formal presentation. We’ll have an interactive session that goes for between 45 minutes and an hour followed by questions. I’ll give a hand-out that outlines what we talked about and some of the basic principles.

Mosaic is all over the place.Thank you, Sir! It is pretty easy to get to. Freshbikes is just down the row from Target and diagonally across the street from the movie theater.
Don’t forget to wear your Bike Arlington vest or similar visibility gear. It is always good to be seen.
See y’all tonight!!!!

The small section on Lee Hwy from Shreve looks rather scary.
I’d follow the gallows routes, but I did want to add that I have ridden Shreve to Mosaic Center with my toddler in a trailer, and since the construction, there are extra wide sidewalks that are easy to navigate by bike between Shreve and the gallows intersection. The path along Shreve is little more than a glorified sidewalk, but it will keep you off the road between the elementary school and the intersection with Lee Highway.

Yeah, Shreve to Gallows is no prob on the sidewalks, but I haven’t even had problems taking the right lane going westbound, since Lee is pretty overbuilt there (at least during non-rush hours). Going east from Gallows to Shreve, I find the sidewalk is preferable.

ParticipantI grew up on Shreve Road and ride it fairly often in the street. The only part that gives me pause is the hill after Shelby Lane and that’s mostly because my mother crashed there the one time she borrowed by bike when I was a kid. I’m more skittish about Gallows Road directly in front of Dunn Loring Metro because of the construction going on and the Kiss and Ride Circle of Confusion and Regret.

ParticipantWith the temperature dropping all afternoon (and into the low 40s by the time the pizza is consumed), I’ll stop by home for another layerand warmer gloves before heading west.

ParticipantSounds like I’ll be there, but I may end up driving over because of time restrictions.

ParticipantThanks y’all for your support! It was good to see you. I’m setting up a second session for the Arlington shop. I don’t know the date yet, but I will hopefully have that set later today.

ParticipantPete covered the Ws of winter weather riding with an emphasis on wearing layers: wicking (a base layer that breathes and fits close to the body), warmth (a layer with some loft to it for warmth), and wrain (how to stay dry and comfortable in the wind and rain).
My own interpretation of the three Ws.
