ParticipantTwice, both on my roadie w/ slicks. The first one was in GTown on M Street during PM rush hour after a big snow fall. A big SUV cut me off leaving me no escape. So I dumped the bike into an icy snow bank. Still have the scabs from that one.
The second one was on the WOD snowfield under the Rt 50 overpass. I was going through it too slow and when I torqued the crank, the back tire went out from underneath me, and I went down, more embarrassed than anything else. But since there were no witnesses, does it count?March 12, 2015 at 9:30 pm #1025611sethpo
ParticipantJust the once last Wednesday in the afternoon ice storm. My knee is still swollen but the resulting GIF makes it acceptable.

ParticipantFunny, but I’m not actually sure. I seem to remember sliding down twice during the first storm, the morning I met Powerful P (I was forced onto my road bike because my toodler bike was at the shop). I don’t think I’ve had any falls since then, though. If so, they were not memorable enough to recall. Looks like you are still leading w&w.

ParticipantI definitely took a fall in Athens, OH on the ice (should have gone ahead and put on the studded tire wheel set for that night time ride), but am not sure if any of what I did on the fat bike in the snow counted as falling or just dismounting since I mostly landed on my feet.

ParticipantTwice for me so far. One was a slow plop while not looking where I was going. The other would have been fun to watch. The IRoD got a hold of me and tracked me off trail but not without a long wobbly fight. Ended in a snow angel of sorts. Took a picture. Will have to find it.

ParticipantWow. Really interesting to hear the absurd, sometimes painful, often funny-only-in-retrospect stories of what we’ve been through. Please be assured my “likes” were a sign of appreciation and not sadism. :+)
I’ve just had the unexpected good news that my schedule has shifted and I’ll be able to attend the final happy hour – I am thrilled! – so I was exploring the possibility of giving a pointless prize for the most falls. But from this exercise I have determined the utter stupidity of such a designation, since I’d be awarding it to myself. :+)
But thank you for sharing. Healing wishes to those still nursing their bumps and bruises! w&w

ParticipantI’ve only fallen once in 25 or so years of cycling. I even managed to not fall when hit by a car – it gently slid against me as it was turning, and though I lost my balance I somehow managed to land on my feet, kinda like Phatboing.

ParticipantIt depends upon how you count falling. But I would say twice. Once on the iced over boardwalk bridge just north of OT/powerplant on the MVT to whatever that island is called. That was one was just funny given how I watched someone else fall and thought oh I’ll go a little slower and be fine–yah, nope. I made it 10′ more than the other ride and then the tires just slide to a 90 degree angle from underneath me. I kind of fell once right as I was leaving work because of a little ice, but into a nice comfy bush. Now, if you count when I unclip and am walking the bike to my shed…well, at least once, maybe twice more as this little wooden walkway becomes like ice with any moisture to my bike shoes. But that’s a walking fall, which I don’t really count as a fall. (I’ve fallen more this winter than ever before).

In my reckoning, unintended dismounts when the bike falls but you stay upright on your feet do NOT count as falls. I’ve had to ditch the bike a couple times in snow and ice but haven’t hit the deck yet with my own torso or upper parts. So I’m claiming zero.

ParticipantI only fell once (that I recall), on a small icy descent. I hit my head, got road salt all over my boots/pants, and had to get a new helmet (because I hit the ground somewhat hard).

ParticipantOnce. Bikenetic MTB ride back at the beginning of February. Several witnesses. Clearly I should stick to the road.

ParticipantOnce – While confirming the terrible condition of the MVT a couple of weeks ago. The jogger rut was iced over near the airport and I did a low speed keel over. Knee was a little sore afterward, but worst part was I somehow ended up back heeling my chainring and got some shallow gashes in my calf area despite wearing 3 layers at the time. I shudder to think what would have happened to my bare leg!
Ice can suck a big fat one.

ParticipantNot once, but then again, ever since I built a wood platform for my computrainer, it is way more stable…..
let me have it, you moosemit-wearing-seven-layered-stinking-onions. Yea that’s right, your co-workers are only being polite so I will say it for them, “you stink big time”. That three second wipe you did in the bathroom didn’t do jack! They can all smell you. Didn’t you ever wonder why they have less meeting in the winter?!? And No, that Ibex wool base layer can not be worn as a stylish European sweater, its a damn smelly undershirt! And double No, wool cannot be worn 7 times before washing it. Your think your hair is cool and spiky, but we all know it is sweat and grime holding it up. Yea, I said it!:pGreat job to all of you, for this was a horrendous, unforgiving winter. You are all a bunch of grimy, stinky, poorly dressed, tough swashbuckling biking pirates that i bow to. BRAVO!

So smelling = winning.

ParticipantThis is probably why I never sign up for BAFS. That plus I don’t like riding in freezing weather. Yes, I am not a friend of Snow Miser.
