Just once. Extremely embarrassing, not very painful.

Three times, all in one week—but at least the first time I landed in snow. Third time was in mud and crud (bleeechhhhhhhhhhhh), and second was on (in?) an icy expansion joist in the middle of 8th NW (and is why I’m in the market for a new helmet).

The important thing is, though, that my trusty Marmot coat doesn’t even show scuff marks from any of these hard landings. That’s some serious textile engineering right there.

I am zero for 2015 so far on falls. I’ve had to drop the bike a couple times, but stayed on my feet.

Therefore I lose. Or maybe I win. Always confused…

One time: first snow ride (on that awful Tuesday that no one thought would be a big deal) I hopped on the bike and wasn’t expecting so much rolling resistance as I tried to clip my right foot in. Ground to a halt and tipped over on my left side, since I then couldn’t get that foot unclipped. Hadn’t even left the driveway yet. Other than that, no falls. Well, I did bang my…uh…let’s just say I landed on my top tube one time, but that wasn’t really a fall.

Four times…3 riding slicks where the ice didn’t cooperate, and once, last Friday, riding knobbies, where that damn dog ran out in front of me whilst on ice. I’ve still got a nasty bruise from that one.

Twice: Once on the Bikenetic ride to Buzz Bakery – we went over a bridge section that was all ice, and I was one of the two silly persons not riding on studly tires. I made it far enough to scream “we’re all gonna die!” before going down, though.

The second time wasn’t really a fall so much as it was trying to injure various parts of my bike by using my body.

Turns out my last fall was actually on Dec 31, 2014 so zero, but just barely.

Once, which is not enough. I never crash anymore proving I am not riding correctly.

Like I’m going to jinx it by posting about it.

    Oops.

Three falls. That I can remember.

Three falls all in powder, but that last one was close as the snow was hiding a jagged metal post that nearly impaled me…. luckily I made snow angles not real ones.

Twice for me. Once during the first week, which banged me up pretty good, and a less severe one on Tuesday this week, where the one tiny patch of ice on the CCT at the DC/MD line took me out as I rode about 2 mph over it trying to “be careful of the ice.” Other people walked their bikes around it just in front of me…I was like….pshhhh..I can ride over this. But I failed.

I think I have whiplash and my butt has a bruise. I’m glad I have ample padding.

None. But, if I see any snow or ice I immediately hop off the bike and burst into tears about riding in situations I’m not comfortable with.

(Not exactly true, but true enough. Please don’t ask how many times I’ve done this in 2015.)

Funny, was about to say the same thing. And for me its entirely true. I’m a chicken and proud of it.

    Oh oh oh… another one:

But does it count if my bike fell but I didn’t?

On the day of the first proper snow, I was riding the fixie for the 2nd time evar, and going really slow. On the slight dip from Providence St turning left onto Oak St in Vienna, I was going still slower because it was so slippery, and at one point the bike slipped and just .. went away. I wasn’t clipped to it, so it was definitely surprising to find myself standing at the top of the hill while my bike found its way into a ditch. I didn’t even have enough forward momentum to stumble or nothin’ – just “now my feets are on pedals … and now on ground”.
