According to my Garmin, from my door, a complete loop is 17 miles and I’m ~.5 miles from the W&OD. For comparison, using Strava on my phone the total milage is 17.2 miles from my door.

I usually get just under 26 kilometers on the GPS.

Many people say, and these signs also state, that the Arlington Loop is 17 miles.

I think that used to be true before the underpass under 395 was built and the loop went over I-395 at Shirlington and looped around in that Alexandria neighborhood to get back to Glebe Road. But that was in 2009, more than 7 years ago (This old cue sheet shows 16.7 miles).

Maps, websites and other materials, like the back of the Arlington bike map, should be updated to reflect the new loop, which I believe is only about 15 1/2 miles. I rarely do the entire loop without interruption or detour, but Strava….

This Strava segment claims 15.4 miles
    This one claims 15.5

References to the Arlington Loop should be updated to say the loop is 15 1/2 miles. For brevity it could be rounded to 15 or 16, but 17 is incorrect.

They should also make the picture look less like the face of a sad/disinterested teenager. I’m surprised Zoloft hasn’t sued for use of their images: http://samoan-ninja.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/sadbubble.png

Yeah, but then folks in Arlington would have to begrudgingly admit that Alexandria is also a worthwhile place to ride.

Not to mention all of the confused cyclists riding around my apartment complex.
