Isn’t Kevin always claiming in BAC that Parks staff does regular trail light checks where they note which ones are out and submit them to Dominion for repair? If that’s true, then DPR should know how long these have been out…

(asking for a friend)
At the section of the Mt Vernon/Custis where they meet at Lynn Street and Lee Highway, there are lights that are not working:

Dominion Power is doing utility undergrounding work at Lee and Lynn and we need to know if the trail light outage is related to their work or has been out of service for longer. The contractor cut some unmarked wires on 3/22/17 but it is not clear if these are old abandoned wiring or related to the outage.
How long have they been out? A week or two, or for much longer?
Thanks!
They’ve been out since at least December, I think, along with all the lights in the Roosevelt Island parking lot. I don’t ride through that area very often though, so maybe they’ve been repaired and re-broken since then.

Right, but does he check NPS land? This is for someone in DES…

Funny–he does actually check. Said they’ve been out for years!

ParticipantI’ve never noticed them on. The lights along the custis in that section seem like they are out more than they are on. And if you report lights being out, you get “blah blah blah” about needing the numbers on the poles. And then the last time I reported, I got “blah blah blah construction.” Disincentive to believing that anything will get done. DBB used to be very into dealing with this.

Yes, I did. But that was before I increased my drinking.
It’s interesting that we do stuff where we ignore the life cycle costs of the action. It is far cheaper not to install a light than to install, maintain and power the light forever. Frequently, the ambient light is enough to serve the purpose (I’m specifically thinking about the bus shelter (and its lights) at 18th and Crystal Drive). Not only are there superfluous lights, they are in the way.
Hmm – maybe I’m not drinking enough.

Dominion Virginia Power is committed to eliminating reporting recidivism.
