Planned on increasing commutes vs. aiming for specific mileage increases. My short commute does not lend itself to racking up the miles, but I was successful in biking to work more frequently. For 2014, aiming for an even higher biking percentage, commute-wise.

Justin, we have some forum members who would be happy to show you how to rack up miles on a short commute (anyone for Harper’s Ferry, the long way?). ;)

I didn’t make a resolution at the beginning of the year, but after FS I resolved to get at least 300 miles per month. So far I’ve made it, but I still have 24 miles left for December with three days remaining. I will make that happen on Mon or Tue.

Actually made it happen on Sunday after the rain stopped, so I made the 300/month with total mileage on the year of 4300+

What I like most is that probably 70% of my riding is transportation–going somewhere–rather than just riding. I like the just riding, too, but would love to see a lot more people on bikes going somewhere and using their bike as transportation. I like to tell people that a bike just makes you a “fast pedestrian.” You can hop on it and go somewhere: no special clothes, no high-tech stuff, no long preparation; just go.

    See you soon, I hope.

I know how to do that – my route home routinely includes “extra” miles just because. One day I’ll have fewer things competing for time such that the “long way” can be even longer and more varied!
