How can I get a station in Palisades?

Have other people in the neighborhood vote on the suggested station location. Keep in mind that the crowdsourcing map is just one tool that helps determine future sites for stations. New stations are less likely in purely residential neighborhoods and those with less population density (no high-rise apartments/condos).

I don’t see Palisades listed in any maps for future stations, but that can always change. It seems to me that Sibley Hospital would be the best shot at getting a bike station in the neighborhood. The closest proposed location that I’ve seen is in Spring Valley. However, the proposed location at WCL on Mass. Ave. has since been removed from maps (possibly because the school is moving the campus to Tenleytown in a few years).

I think the green markers indicate stations to be added in the current round of expansion (which has taken much longer to complete than planned). The yellow markers indicate stations for future expansion rounds. There is one near Western Ave. at AU Park but none in Palisades.

Even if CaBi received a game-changing funding increase, the priorities would still be on areas with more businesses, greater population density and Metro station connections. If there are any local groups in the neighborhood willing to fund a station, that might be another option. Some of the local Business Improvement Districts in the region have helped to sponsor stations, including the first group of stations that were installed in Crystal City. I don’t think there is a BID in Palisades. Maybe you can contact Sibley and ask them about helping to pay for a station. Obviously the station wouldn’t be used by many patients, but it could be useful for hospital employees. They could ride from the Tenleytown or Friendship Heights Metro stations.

Ah, that must be why the Takoma Metro has no dock. 😡

A station is already planned for the Takoma Metro. I think there have been issues with Metro on station placement, not just at Takoma. None of the planned stations at the western Montgomery Co. Metro stations have been installed, even though most of the other planned stations are in place. There is clearly some sort of problem between CaBi and WMATA, even though there are bike stations at many Metro stations already, in D.C. and in VA. But you can’t say that CaBi planners are ignoring the importance of Metro connections.

I’m not very hopeful about CABI setting up a station in the Palisades anytime soon – despite MacArthur Blvd being among the most bike-traffic’ed streets in DC.

Getting to the neighborhood from Georgetown requires quite a bit of climbing, and getting from the Palisades up to AU/Glover requires the same.

Sibley might make sense – or the little nucleus of shops right around the Safeway.
