ParticipantI even love it in February when it’s snowing. I remind myself regularly how lucky I am to have a commute that makes me happy.

ParticipantI think of work as a long-ish break at the turnaround point. Despite the problems, how many other people can say their commute is the best part of their workday?
As for February, just think of it as getting all the speed, exertion, and cold of snow skiing. Except without paying for a lift ticket!

ParticipantI think my bike commute is on the short end of the spectrum – it’s only about three miles. But I love that a brisk ride on CaBi takes the same amount of time as taking Metro, but I’m getting fresh air, exercise, and I don’t have to cram myself into a crowded train with a bunch of other grumpy people. I get to work in a much better mood since I started biking (almost every day since November).
It’ll be even better when I find a bike I’m happy with and buy my own so I don’t have to go through the hassle of finding a CaBi bike in Columbia Heights during the morning rush hour.

Is there anyone else here who thinks of his/her job as something that they have to do in between bike rides?
Yes, exactly!

ParticipantI’m very, very fortunate to have the ability to ride to work every day. I love living by bicycle. Maybe I’ll drive my car next year. Maybe I won’t.

ParticipantNext week will mark three full consecutive years without driving to work even once. I honestly can sing the praises all day about it. I use NO gas, I get great exercise, and it’s endless stress relief.
But for me, I don’t like my job very much, so it makes my commute the best part of my day. How many people can say that about a 20 mile commute in Northern Virginia?
Perhaps the best part…
Clear traffic: Home in an hour.
Total gridlock: Home in an hour.
Foot of snow: Home in an hour and a half, where it took my coworkers TEN.
Torrential downpour: Home in an hour.etc

ParticipantYou forgot the “Lovely spring day out: Home in 3 hours.”

Why Dirt, what ever are you talking about?

In addition to arriving at work stress-free, and happily enjoying some amazing scenery…Easily one of the best reasons, as you state above, is that I almost always beat my driving time when I bike in, and I certainly beat my Metro time (I am also WAY more consistent than Metro.)
