But you’re only supposed to have bbq sauce on your face AFTER you eat, not BEFORE

ParticipantItalian Store is delicious and just off the Custis, though I have a hard time supporting stores in that strip mall, given their hostility to the trail and cycling generally. Kite Runner on Lee Hwy between Oakland and Pollard is worth the detour (not that it’s a detour for us – we live a block away).

District Taco is good enough for me for me to make a slight detour to go there! Plus they support biking and bike racing, and you are encouraged to bring your bikes inside.
What’s your route?

Even with Big Wheel Bikes as a tenant? I’ve never heard of any issues with stores in that strip mall disliking the trail or cycling.

ParticipantI greatly prefer http://www.tacoselchilango.com/ over District Taco. Super nice people work there too and there are a couple of inverted u-racks stationed right outside their front door (thanks WABA!). There is a tiny patio out back and you won’t feel weird wearing your bike clothing inside. They even serve tongue!

ParticipantThat place looks great! And tongue is some good stuff. Definitely gonna have to try this place out.

ParticipantBoth Shirlington and Pentagon Row have lots of places to sit outside for meals at various price points. Whole Foods in Old Town has a bike rack and outdoor seating. Teaism in Old Town has outdoor seating too (but you won’t feel funny sitting inside) and there is a rack located in the Trader Joe’s garage next door.

That strip mall routinely plows the snow from their parking lot onto the Custis, has actively resisted Capital Bikeshare, and has lackluster bike parking and the worst bike shop in Arlington.

District Taco is in Arlington.
The best papusas, IMHO, is El Charrito Caminante, which we can pretend is a short detour from the trail…

I would prefer they just provide bike parking…although I think only once have I seen a bike there other than mine. Lee Hwy doesn’t exactly scream “bikes welcome here!”

The one downtown has actually bike stands near the front counter!

District Taco started in Arlington, but now 75% of District Taco locations are in DC.

The one downtown that’s closest to my office has that too, but there’s no practical way to get a bike in there, especially during the lunch rush queues. I think I’ve only ever seen one bike in the stand.
I usually jog the ~4 blocks there, and walk really slowly back…

The Original Hot Pocket!
Next time I ride to Vienna, I’m stopping at this place. I’ve never been, but I am very excited about it.

Make sure to bring home a dozen or so.

ParticipantMy wife and I were pretty stoked to try Pure Pasty after coming back from a London trip, but we were disappointed. The ones we tried were all pretty bland, even the curry (though that was definitely the better of the ones we tried). I will try it again, though; maybe it was just a “salt-free day” or something. I want to like them.
