This email update provides an update on multiple activities associated with Holmes Run Trail repair projects as of Thursday, February 10, 2022:
1.Holmes Run Bike & Pedestrian Trail: Bridge Crossing at 4600 Duke St. – Interim stabilization of the stream bank was completed the week of January 28. Design for the replacement bridge is at 30% and progressing on schedule.
2.Holmes Run Bike & Pedestrian Trail: Ripley St. Access Ramp; Culvert Bridge west of 395; & Dora Kelly Trail from Morgan St. – Design contract finalized and notice to proceed issued in January 2022. Park users may see survey teams in the project area over the next few months and other information gathering activities will occur. Design is anticipated to be one year.
3.Dora Kelley Park Trail: As weather conditions permit, concrete repairs from the fair-weather crossing west are planned for late February and early March. Work will require intermittent closing of the bike & pedestrian trail when work is in progress. Completion is anticipated at 3-5 days. City staff will post signs 5-7 days in advance of work start.
4.Beatley Bridge: As weather conditions permit, resurfacing of the bridge is planned for late February and early March. Work will require the full closer of the bridge during the project. Completion is anticipated at 7-10 days. City staff will post signs 5-7 days in advance of work start. Trail users will be redirected to the Ripley Street crossing to the west and to Duke St. and then east to connect to the Holmes Run Trail.
Trail users are encouraged to only use the established detour routes when using the Holmes Run Trail from Eisenhower Avenue west to Holmes Run Parkway. City staff will schedule a community update meeting this spring to introduce the design team and answer community questions. The next meeting will be announced to this stakeholder group, through City eNews, and on the Holmes Run Trail Repairs project website. Please forward this email to other interested stakeholders, and you may refer individuals to Jack.Browand@alexandriava.gov to be added to the Holmes Run Trail Repairs Stakeholder Group email group.
Sincerely,
