ParticipantI love my Nite Ize Spoke Lits…. but I especially love the look of astonishment on people’s faces when they see it…. something so simple makes people so happy (instead of angry that there’s a bike around)

ParticipantWhere can I get Spoke Lits locally instead of ordering them from the web?

ParticipantPPTC will have a Christmas Lights ride from Belle Haven on Thursday, December 15. I’m still trying to get some ideas for an Arlington one going.

Sadly, no.
But if you’re trying to avoid the shipping costs…. you should just sign up for the 30-day FREE Trial of Amazon Prime. For 30 days, you’ll get unlimited FREE 2-day shipping! Just make sure you put a reminder in your calendar to cancel the service before they charge you.
IT’S WORTH IT! And the Spoke Lits are only $6 on amazon!!!!!

I got mine at LL Bean’s store at Tysons Corner.
The only thing I was disappointed in with these lights is how quickly the batteries died. Has anyone tried replacing the batteries?

ParticipantI’m thinking about putting together some kind of holiday light ride. I haven’t figured out yet if it will be a death march or a fun ride. Most likely the latter. Unfortunately some of the great houses in our area are at the top of some really lovely hills. I’m scouting out some interesting and safe-ish ways to get to different places.
Would a 10-15 mile loop through Falls Church, Annandale and a quick dip into North Arlington be an acceptable distance? I can find a festive place to get a festive eggnog-flavored beer and reindeer burger afterward. (I make it sound so fun.)
There’s one place in Annandale near Barcroft that is just too awesome to miss. I’ll try and set up the route so that it goes past some other well decorated homes.
I could probably lead it on a Wednesday or Thursday night. Is that of any interest? My guess is that it would be a 5:30-8:30pm kind of event from beginning to end.

ParticipantAssuming my arm grows back and my hearing returns and you promise to only blow that damn vuvuzela in my “bad” ear, I’d like to test out my bike’s Christmas lights climbing hills in the dark at near freezing temps, sounds fun, or like what passes for fun in my life. Either night works for me. I’ll pray for blizzard conditions :p

ParticipantThis may become 2 different rides…. possibly 3.
1) Casually-paced ride for everyone with a reasonable distance and timing that most can make.
2) The “Nothing says Merry Christmas like breaking the legs off your friends” death march version…. because you only kill the ones you love.
3) Do one between Christmas and New Years so we don’t have to make it home at a reasonable hour because the next day is a work/school day for many. We’ll see how this goes. A lot depends on my workload.
Hugs and kisses,
Pete

You won’t have to worry about that anymore. I’ve been hitting eBay pretty hard for a used trombone.

ParticipantAny chance we could do a version of Pete’s #1 on Saturday or Sunday early evening, and make it kid friendly? I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to take our 1 year old out on one. She’ll last about 45 minutes and needs to be home by 7:15pm. Maybe we could even cross post with Kidical Mass…

Let me work on that. That might end up being #4. I’d have to center that in Arlington (not a bad thing at all) since the freak-show light display houses that I know are in places that are not easy enough to get to if the ride time is limited to 45 minutes.
I’ll work on that.

ParticipantI am interested in Door #1 or Door #3. At my age, a death ride is pretty much just my normal ride home
Sometimes there are some nice houses in N Arlington, near 66 and Glebe Rd. That would make utilizing the Custis Trail as a link possible. I will try to pay attention and see what lights are shining this year.
