Just wanted to document a little accident I was in yesterday at the intersection of 19th and Van Buren: https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=207491148900742506668.0004e242913c506eb2d02&msa=0

Traveling northbound on Van Buren at the four way stop I waited for the car in front of me to go through the intersection and I put my foot down at the sign. The cross traffic went through. Then I thought it was my turn. A quarter of the way through, I was hit from the right. A brand new black Corolla. My bike went flying, but I clipped out and tried to jump on top of the car. On the lady’s hood, I could see that she was still looking down at her phone. I think she just pumped the brakes at the stop sign and didn’t see me.

No need to call the cops – no broken bones. I’m OK minus two scrapes and a big hole in my shorts (made for a fun ride home). I just had to true my front wheel and re-tune my front fender. I rode to work today – so no worries.

I just wanted to document it here.

A bent rim that is forced into true with spoke tension will cause spokes to break. Demand the driver buy you a new wheel.

She was a nice lady who exchanged phone numbers with me and was very apologetic.

I was hit by a very nice and apologetic couple…who disappeared once the quote came in to fix my bike. You absolutely cannot put your trust in people you don’t know in a situation like this. Please look out for yourself and don’t do anything trying to save the person who hit you with her car any inconvenience.
