Hi Andrew. Is the 1/2 bike a unicycle by chance?

We don’t have garage either, and do have 7 bikes for 3 1/2 people (one is away at college). We’ve simply converted our entrance hallway and half of our den in to bike storage/hanger area.

I’m an architect. Never done anything bike specific, aside from a bike stand when I lived in an apartment. These days I have too many bikes, so they all just hang off the ceiling on hooks. :)

What are you looking for? A shed-type thing?

When we moved into our house, it already had a locking back yard shed. The shed seems to have been a wooden prefab that the previous owner put in. I have added hooks to the roof joists to hang four bikes and have whichever one I am riding the next day parked just inside my basement entrance.

We’ve used all of the above, but our current rental actually has a garage that we can use for the bikes, so we’ve gotten soft :).

Sort of nice shed-y thing accessible to the side walkway and drive. I was envisioning a 12’x3′ footprint, 8′ high with a shed roof, clerestory windows on the high side of the roof, with 2 sliding barn type doors on the opening side, the closed side would serve as a defining wall for the patio. The idea being that you could hang at least one bike behind each door, and then park a few on each side of the floor. With some shelves for helmets, panniers and such.

Then I started to think about garage doors that, when open, would pop out the back and shade the patio, and… decided that maybe some professional help was in order to keep things from getting out of hand.

With all the cool commercial bike shelter/locking station design work, I’m a bit surprised that I haven’t seen any residential work – and I’ve been looking.

Nope, a Burley third wheel bike – though if you were good you could probably do it.
