ParticipantBob, nice attempt to lead me down the Fair Use rabbit hole. How does that saying go, if the facts aren’t on your side, quote the law? I never said Tim broke any law.
I do think it’s immature, selfish, and wrong to copy someone else’s work unmodified, unadorned, without citation. That’s disrespectful and remarkably lazy considering how easy it is to copy and paste a URL. Your lengthy attempts to convince me that it’s permitted under US law aren’t convincing me that it’s right.

Because giving credit is the right thing to do. Or if you think they’re blindly stealing stuff such that you don’t have any real prospect of crediting the creator (or IP owner), don’t “use” (=copy without permission) it. The Internet is full of people freely giving their work away — bajilllions of Flickr pics explicitly released under Creative Commons licenses, etc. IMO it’s immature and selfish to just copy somebody else’s work without making even the slightest attempt to give credit.
Now I’m confused–The High Definite link you provided above isn’t the original creator either? It has a “via” link to a random funny pictures tumblr page too…
But you’re saying that if I can’t find the original creator, I shouldn’t share anything at all?
