Why? The one time I forgot I was on a CaBi, and tried to pass an accelerating bus, my legs were spinning and spinning for dear life and I was only going about 1/4 as fast as I would on any normal bike. I suspect all of us who have ridden a CaBi know all too well the limits of our endurance for the equipment.
But if others want to do it, I’d love to come watch for the entertainment value.

Much like riding with a 75-pound child on trail-a-bike.

Set it up at Hains Point!
Nah, proper CaBi time trials will be in the most congested parts of the city with equal time on the 15th St cycle track and a grueling trek down Mass Ave to Union Station.

ParticipantHey, at least the playing field would be level with everyone riding the same equipment (minus a bonky bell or two). Wouldn’t it be funny to see a 100+ CaBi riders pedaling furiously around Hain’s Pt in a bona fide race. Talk about egos! And costumes…but alas no rhinestone bikes. It would probably attract people who would never consider racing on an ordinary bike (like me).

ParticipantIt would basically come down to who can spin at the highest RPM for the longest.
I’ll be bringing my skinsuit and aerohelmet.

ParticipantSo you’d have to see how many laps of Heinous Point you could do before the 30 minutes on your CaBi rental is up?

ParticipantJust found out the guys at my old job FIXED MY MTB as a surprise! They just sent me a picture of my new shifters.

I’ve been having thoughts of a CaBi race around DC with severe time/point penalties for getting charged for any > 30 minute check-outs, so you have to plan bike swaps several times during the race…no cheating by turning bikes in and reporting them as in need of maintenance either.

Does this mean you don’t get to buy a new bike?

Well, I will still need a bike that weighs less than a small car for commuting
But at least now I have something to take the Confident Cycling classes on! (trying to decide if I want to try to make it downtown tomorrow morning or wait for the Arlington class)
They are SUPER nice guys. I miss that job.

ParticipantGonna go check out my repaired bike on Sunday!
I really wish I could do the CC class this weekend but already have plans – going to shoot for the May 12 DC class instead.
Got a great deal on a Pearl Izumi WXB Barrier rain jacket on Amazon (the helmet hood amuses me way too much) and a happy orange Pacific Outdoor Equipment Vancouver bag is on the way… (if you can’t bike, buy bike gear!
)

ParticipantAfter you do your CC class on the 12th, don’t forget to ride BikeDC on the 13th.

ParticipantOh right! Hmm, maybe I can sneak in a couple of miles before hitting the road for Mother’s Day…

ParticipantI feel obliged to mention that I was so busy shopping online for bike stuff on the bus ride home today that I missed my stop and now am somewhere deep in the wilds of Arlington. I blame you all
