Nearly every time I ride. I’ll probably have permanent but nearly invisible scars on my mid/lower shins for life.

For reference for those who have no taste and have never seen this –

Oh yeah. Even recorded on camera. About 10-20 seconds in on this video for example. Except instead of shin gash, this one was a crotch bang on top tube. If you have the volume up, you may hear a naughty word. Another time, I unclipped approaching a stop sign and cross walk next to a school. But pushing the pedal forward a little bit more to get a good look, I accidentally reclipped, and then tipped over to that side. Let loose a four letter word, then had to quickly apologize for the bad language to all the little kids crossing the road with their brothers and sisters and Moms. Got a lot of giggles from the older kids.

I have a set of meat tenderizer Specialized BMX pedals that people can borrow that will cure you really quickly. I had to give up on them for the very reasons in this thread. Things are brutal!

Much to my eternal mortification, most of my pedal mishaps happen as I’m crossing busy intersections guaranteeing an appreciative audience. I slip and stumble around as if I were drunk, and I’m not (honest), wobble and just when I think it’s over, right myself and make it across. It is especially entertaining at the intersection of Braddock Road and the Audrey Moore Rec Center which involves a number of traffic lanes higher than I can accurately count.

I also learned the hard way that wet grass makes the bottom of my shoes slippery enough to slide right off the pedals and onto, well, you know the choices are simply not good.

    Happy Trails,
    ann
