No baggage service at Harper’s Ferry. It is an option for Pittsburgh but I’ve heard there are shuttles that will drive you to the trailheads in various locations like Pittsburgh and Cumberland and Harper’s Ferry.

Until they do roll-on, it’s a pain (unboxing and assembling your bike at a train station in the middle of the night kind of pain).
If you have a folding bike you can carry on, then it’s not so bad.

Any suggestions for a shuttle service to Harpers Ferry?
This place was mentioned recently by someone trying to get a crew together to head to Cumberland…they’re based in Hancock: http://candobicycle.com/rentals/shuttles

When I priced out my options for getting to Pittsburgh with a bike, it turned out that a car was the cheapest…gas and one way rental fees included. Plus I was able to drop the car off downtown right next to the start of the trail. On the downside I wasn’t able to booze it up on the train to Pitt.

That’s what I suspected. I had plans to do that this summer with a buddy, although my thought was to drive to Cumberland and rent there. What rental agency did you use?

Bob, you do not need a shuttle to Harper’s Ferry.

We used Get Out and Play for our shuttle to PGH from DC. They were excellent.

Everyone I know has said the same thing. The cheapest might be a Bolt Bus or the like, but have heard getting non-boxed bikes in the cargo is hit and miss.

It was either Budget or Avis. Started at DCA…the drop was only a couple blocks from the convergence of the Allegheny and Monongahela.
