On my commute to DuPont Circle this morning I had a nasty run-in with an older man in a blue Maserati. As we both approached the stop bar on R St at 28th St NW, he cut me off and forced me into the curb and I (thankfully) barely managed to not hit his very expensive car. Recovering from the panic, I looked up to see him give me some choice hand signals and what was the beginning of a lecture about being on the road I guess. I decided to skedaddle and tried to go around him when he got out of his car to keep yelling at me! Managed to give him a wide berth as I pedaled around him, but he got back in his car and followed me for a while down 28th St yelling out of his window. I was able to escape once past Q St.
I already know from riding in GTown to watch out for the Mercedes SUVs. Add blue Maseratis to the list!
If you wanted to report it, blue Maseratis can’t be that plentiful, even in DC. Ah, who am I kidding. MPD would do nothing.
Glad you escaped. The feeling once the adrenaline rush is over isn’t fun.

ParticipantIf you’re going to get injured by a driver in DC, make sure you wait until the Motor Vehicle Collision Recovery Act of 2016 goes into effect in a few weeks!!

ParticipantAt the next light dismount, walk to car, lean $ bike on $$,$$$$ car while holding a hand to one ear signaling that you did not hear and want him to repeat.

I can’t find a start date for the law to go into effect. Anyone know?

ParticipantRemember, you don’t want to go outside after mid-december, because AAA has assured us that changing the liability standards will bring on the apocolypse.

ParticipantA couple of weeks ago, I got run into from the rear by a Jag-you-are convertible. It was a very low speed, and I didn’t even fall down. But the impact actually knocked off the hood emblem and his license plate holder and dented his hood. It was bizarre.
And yes, in his mind it was somehow my fault.

No, he lost his licence and now he don’t drive.
Giving him an even better reason to take up biking.

ParticipantFor incidents during commutes, I presume everyone’s on a regular routine. If I want to have words with a driver on my terms, I’ll stake out the route and usually come across them again within a week or so. But it works both ways, so Blue Maserati might be looking for you too.
