…is still better then a good day driving.

I started off having one of those terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days:
    – late start
    – broke a glass bottle in the kitchen
    – bikes were all tangled in the shed
    – coming off a summer cold so I was hacking up a lung on the ride
    – a few folks came uncomfortably close while they executed “run silent, run close” passings…

and then as I was waiting for the light in Ballston I started really to appreciate the amazing weather just as three cars with vein-popping drivers exchanged unpleasantries and I remembered how lucky I am.

Thanks to all for your hard work in making this a great place to ride. Enjoy the nice weather today – it’s too nice a day to be in a bad mood.

When I have a bad day or mad at someone. I convert all my negative energy to positive energy by riding all out on the big and long up hills. After the ride, I always feel great and got over the bad day quickly.

Or on a day like today and you forget to bring your work ID and don’t think anything of turning around and riding another ten miles to home and back because it’s much less of a hassle than dealing with the dreaded “badge of shame” all day. :D

I’d add it’s better than any day — good, if there is such a thing, or bad — on Metro.

I was going to say a friend and relative texted me saying they were stuck waiting 25 minutes for a Red Line train. I wrote back saying I went door-to-door in under 30 minutes on my bike and feel great…and I got to say screw you with your lousy service and ridiculously expensive fees, Metro! They both wrote back in envy.

Totally with y’all about the therapeutic value of a ride. I find the ride home especially valuable. On the first half of the ride I chew over the events of the day, but by the second half of the ride all that is gone. When I was describing a problem at work that day w/ my son, he said, “You don’t even sound angry about it. I’d be furious. What up with that?” I explained how far away the event seemed after the nice buffer of a bike ride home.

A little bit one-sided, but interesting. And sources are cited:
