I hang my bikes that way. No worries about the rim; I think normal use is far more traumatic. Do be careful about wedding the valve stem, though. That could be damaging.

    Thanks.

That was supposed to say “wedging” – probably the phone would have proffered “pinching”.

I figured. Any preference on front wheel or back wheel on the hook?

I hang my bikes from the front wheel. The center of gravity seems to make it a bit easier that way.

Yes, I also hang from the front wheel, mainly due to ease of lifting them up and of dropping them onto their rear wheel for wheeling them out [of my shed].

Also, I stagger the height of the hooks to maximize the horizontal space needed. It’s either that or one fewer bike … (shudder)

Since my hooks are on a cross beam and closer together to have room for four, I alternate between front wheel and back wheel. Someone once commented to me that it’s better for the headset to hand the bike from the rear wheel. I don’t know if there is anything too this.

Ooh, that would work too! :)

Yeah, I don’t have enough data to comment on the headset, but no issues in past few years. I would imagine doing things like fork-mount roof racks would be much worse for headsets, but that advice may also be unfounded.

Do you do anything special to get your WeeHoo to stand up, or is it just wedged in there?

Yeah, it is just wedged in there; the wheel is against the wall and the bar resting against my mtb handlebar grip. It works quite well, though I hardly ever ride that bike that it is leaning against (really struggle to justify a full-suspension mtb here; that will be the one to go when the kid/s get bigger and need more bike room).

I hang ours like Consularrider does. Flip/flopped back to front so that I can get more in a tighter space. I’ve been doing that for a number of years now and even the bikes that see significantly less use show no sign of out-of-round wheels.
