Where in Del Ray can you find dancing skeletons, oversized spiders, creepy clowns, a ghostly carriage, and inflatable dragons? Come see some of Del Ray’s spectacularly spooky Halloween decorations on this free, family-friendly bike ride organized by the Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (and yours truly).

    When: Saturday, October 31. Register for a specific start time — 9:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. — by going to https://www.eventbrite.com/e/halloween-bike-ride-in-del-ray-tickets-126018244963.

Where: We’ll meet at the traffic circle at the south end of Main Line Boulevard, just off the Potomac Yard trail (directly behind or east of George Washington Middle School), then hop on our bikes. The route is about 6 miles, very flat, and on neighborhood streets: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/34407995.

Who: Hopefully, you! Plus a number of forum friends who have already volunteered to help with this ride (thank you, CaseyKane50, emm, SarahBee, and smb9600). Riders of all ages and abilities are welcome, including children and youth, but we ask that children younger than 10 be accompanied by an adult.

For everyone’s health and safety, we’ll be taking the following precautions:

    • breaking into small groups of 10 riders (1 ride leader, 1 sweep, and 8 participants)
    • requiring participants to sign up in advance for specific time slots starting at 9:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m. or 11:00 a.m.
    • asking everyone to self-screen and not ride if they’ve experienced symptoms of covid or been exposed to a known covid case within the last 14 days
    • asking people to wear masks at the beginning and end, and also while riding if they can breathe comfortably while doing so
    • asking people to give each other at least 10 feet of space while riding
    • keeping an eye on local covid conditions, and cancelling the ride if needed

Bring a functioning bike, a helmet, water, a face covering, and hand sanitizer.
