6 months done, 6 months to go for 2013. How are all of you doing with your New Year’s goals/resolutions?

For those that posted them this past December/January, here’s the thread: http://bikearlingtonforum.com/showthread.php?3540-New-Years-Resolution-how-many-miles

Here are my goals with updates:

    Quantitative
    •Keep biking average above 9 miles/day – so far it’s at 9.57 miles/day
•4000 miles for the year – on track, currently around 2007 miles
•100 miles in a day – 83 miles is my personal record, but I haven’t tried to push it yet as my high is 53 miles for this year

    Qualitative
•Bike and hike trips – haven’t done this yet
•Traveling bike – haven’t taken my bike to other places yet
•Bicycle touring on vacations – rented a bike on my trip to Clearwater/St Petersburg (rode 2 days)
•Dust off the mountain bike – used it for a few snowy days, but no actual mountain biking yet
•50 States Ride – I will be mentally and physically prepared for it
•Try out CaBi – tried it out a few times this year, and recommend it to others
•Explore more of MD trails – rode on all of the Anacostia Tributary Trail system trails
•ABAC – unsure about how helpful I’d be, lost interest, and have not attended any meetings since last year

Dare to Dream ($$$ needed, plus I don’t own a car)
•Bike Shenandoah National Park – Am open if an opportunity presents itself
•Bicycle tour in Europe (or other continent) – I am saving up for a 2014 week-long bicycle tour in the Czech Republic!

Don’t forget your goals, and keep working to achieve them!

I didn’t make any resolutions, but I want to ride 14,000 miles this year, ‘captain’ a winning team in the National Bike Challenge, finish top forty individually in that Challenge, and ride 200 miles in 15 hours. I’m at 7,773 for the year, so I’m pretty close on that. The NBC team has a nice lead, but the team would be leading without my points and probably would be doing even better with a different captain, so I can’t claim too much credit for that. Still, it’s nice to be winning! Thank you BikeArlington forum members for joining the team and riding so much! I finished around 42nd last year but the field is a lot stronger this year and it’s unlikely I can finish in a better position this year, so top forty goal looks highly doubtful. I need to attempt the double soon while the days are still long. The weather this week has taken it’s toll but maybe I can rally and do it Saturday? I’m thinking W&OD, White’s Ferry, Sugarloaf, Lamb’s Knob, Harper’s Ferry, C&O to Point of Rocks, Furnace Mountain Road, Clark’s Gap, back to W&OD. The weather has beaten me down this week, so it’s very up in the air weather (sic) or not I will try this.

    Talk about motivation!

Wow, 14,000 miles. Your bike is tired.

Sat may not be a good day since that is when the cold front is supposed to hit our area (yeah!) and there will be thunderstorms as a result. Sunday is supposed to be cooler and no t-storms.

My goals were to double my miles, hours, and elevation from last year, which was my first full year of riding (last years numbers were 2,040 miles, 124 hours 33 minutes, and 55,480′), do my first full century, and participate in some group rides.

So far I am at 3,070 miles, 184 hours 49 minutes, and 107,129′. I rode the Tour de Cure 108 mile century and am registered for the Civil War century, as well as looking for a third one. I have ridden with Ride2Recovery and several meetup groups and have begun to lead a few rides (leading a 50 mile ride in Prince William County tomorrow).

I’ve increased my milage goal to 5,000 for the year. I’m very pleased with my progress, but already wondering how I will top it next year.

All this talk got me interested in seeing how far I had ridden. Except I don’t usually track rides save for participating on the FABB team with Endomondo (horrible program I might add). But it appears in the last 2 months I’ve clocked 1,196 miles. So I’m probably a little over 1,200 as I forgot to clock in one ride home ~15 miles. It’s funny you don’t even realize the distance until you look it up.

Maybe I will shoot for 5k too on the year. Figure it seems like the new consensus goal.

Well I didn’t set a goal at the beginning of the year because I didn’t own a bike. So I bought one in April and then my goal was to ride to work on BTWD. I did it. I’ve been riding to work several times a week since then and am still working on a 5/5 week. So I guess that’s a goal. I’ll also set a goal to go on an organized/group ride; I think that may help me get over the hump of limiting my solo rides to 20-30 miles. My bottom line goal isn’t about miles or pace (this year). Instead, it’s just to get out on the bike as much as possible because it always puts me in a good mood.
