Hmm, let’s see what I said.

… I would expect to at least hit 3000 next year, possibly 3500…
I’m right at 100 miles per week average (2604 for the year so far), so at this rate, I’ll hit 5200 or close. My expectations appeared to be low.

    My actual goals are

    1) To keep riding all through the winter.
    Done. Thanks Freezing Saddles!

    2) Somewhere around May-ish (or whenever it is we get reliably good daylight between at least 6am and 8pm) to make some attempts at commuting. Sticking with it is not necessarily a goal, because I’m uncertain about how safe I’ll feel on certain sections of my available routes until I actually try them out, on a bike, at the correct commuting times of day. But at least giving it a try. One way per day, doing the round trip once or twice a week. (I will have to get a LOT faster if I ever think I’ll have time to ride both ways in the same day as anything other than the occasional challenge).
Also done. So far three times. “once or twice per week” is a bit of a lofty goal, as it turns out, I’m doing every 2 to 3 weeks at the moment. The miles on back to back days and early mornings are harder than I thought they’d be. Doubt it’ll continue through winter, either, due to some areas that are a bit sketchy safety-wise, imo. I doubt I’ll want to ride them in the dark, but maybe I’ll feel different with some greater familiarity.

    3) Get better at hills. Up them and down them. I’m a weak climber and scaredy-cat descender, so they slow me down way too much (see above about getting a LOT faster).
    …sigh… I still have 6 months, right?

    Goals:

    1) Ride 4000km by the end of the year.
    – I am at 2200 now so I am on track to hit the goal.

    2) Do a century ride
    – Longest ride so far this year has been 85km so I am working on it.

    3) Ride the full MocoEpic
    – Once I get my new mtb, this will happen

    So far so good!

Goals completed – ride to work on BTWD.

New goal – ride to work at least once every 2 weeks.

I have some goals in mind for length of ride, speed, ability on hills, but they are either ones I’m not sure how to quantify, or ones I don’t care to share :)

    1. Length > one bike length
    2. Speed = perceptible forward motion
    3. Ability on hills = Survival :D

I had to go back and search the original thread. My goal was 3,000 miles, and I’m at about 1,300 now, which is going to make it tough (damn my short commute). But I did do my first century, and I’m hoping to take a newbie bike commuter friend on a metric some time this fall (if anyone has a recommendation for a good organized ride for a first-timer, let me know).

Well for now I would like to get more than 100 miles on my new roadie; then do a century before the year ends :)

My goal was to ride to work every day this year. So far I’ve driven only once because I wanted a rest day before the ex2 off road half marathon.

So far I’ve ridden about 3200 commuting miles and now my ebike odometer just passed 10k miles.

Seagull Century. It’s all flat, no hills. If the weather cooperates it’s the easiest one out there and I’m told it’s extremely well-run.

You need to do more Kidical Mass rides. Good thing there’s a BONUS RIDE THIS SATURDAY.

My resolution is to stop logging miles in a spreadsheet and comparing with previous years. I’ll be happy to let garmin and strava take care of that daily math for me. I’m 2 miles away from my 4500 goal this year, so my resolution is not to count next year, but plan more 100 mile rides.

Stopped keeping a spreadsheet. That was easy.

I’m about 300 miles below last year.

Does your first-timer have a target date for a metric? There are several good “local” options coming up between now and the end of October. Here are a few I have on my calendar as possibilities. Note that the century rides usually also have shorter options.

August 4: Heart of the Chesapeake Ride Cambridge, MD. I have no experience with this one, but it should be fairly flat.

August 18: Covered Bridge Metric, Lancaster, PA. I’m doing it for the first time this year. I believe is hilly and registration sells out.

August 25: Reston Century, Reston Town Center. This is another hilly ride, but well supported.

September 7: Civil War Century, Thurmont, MD. Another hilly ride and it is already sold out.

September 8: Oxon Hill’s Indian Head 100, Indian Head, MD. More rolling hills than hilly (one exception). Also well supported.

September 21: WABA 50 States Ride. Great way to see DC, but limited support on the ride and you do need to be comfortable riding on city streets with traffic.

September 22: The Potomac Pedalers Backroads Century Berryville, VA. Well supported and nice roads for riding. Registration is open and does sell out.

October 26: Great Pumpkin Ride Warrenton, VA. While it is slightly longer than 100 km, the roads are great for riding and there are lots of pumpkin treats at the rest stops. Registration opens at the end of this week.

My goal was “Strava will tell me what my 2013 resolution was on December 31, 2013.” So far, I’m right on target.

So far, Strava says I’ve ridden 3093 miles, including 132.6 on the last day of winter.

Just signed up for the Seagull metric. I’m dragging along the new commuter and also my friend who did the Five Boro ride with me.

The golf course stop was nice. They had a busy mechanic’s tent and a good amount of space to spread out. The road in and out can be a choke point though, so keep an eye out for inexperienced cyclists and some low speed spills as people struggle to unclip.
