Hi there, I’m Megan (aka Megabeth here on the forum) and I’m going to be riding around Hains Point loop for 100 miles* on Sunday, December 22nd. I’m doing this to raise awareness and funds for the Washington Area Bicycling Association’s Women & Bicycles program. Come join me for a day of food, festivities, and fun!

Last year, I had a crazy idea. I was going to ride 100 miles around the Hains Point 3-mile loop on a cold December day. I asked the cycling community to join me on that cold December day and the results were beyond my wildest dreams. We had over 100 riders join me throughout the day as well as other friends and supporters that hung out at the pit stop. We had contests, giveaways, hand-ups, freebies from generous sponsors and food.

I’m doing the ride again this year. And, I know it’s going to be bigger and better! WABA’s Women & Bicycles program is now in full swing and it’s been an awesome program.

Sure, I’m riding 100 miles* but *you* can ride as much or as little as you like. Or, you can just show up to participate in the festivities to show your support.

Be sure to visit http://www.HainsPoint100.com for all the ride details and to let me know you’re coming (or donating!) I’ll be posting updates, details and other info here on the forum, as well

    * Actually 115 miles this year because friends took me up on my WABA Membership Challenge where I would ride extra miles this year if they became a new WABA member…thanks, ya’ll.

So when do we get our route maps and cue sheets? :D

I think we can use the one from last year. Credit to TwoWheelsDC for the development.

My fine forum peoples…if you run into anyone that is thinking of showing up for the Hains Point 100. Can you help me out and send them to http://www.HainsPoint100.com to sign up?

Want to make sure I’m able to get pre-ride messaging out to everyone, etc. and have an idea of how many we’re expecting. Because, this thing is growing super-fast (especially with the awesome temps we’re looking to have on Sunday!)

If you’ve signed-up on the form to help out, bring something, etc. you’ll be getting some messaging in the next few days. Thanks for your patience!

There is some vague talk of rain on Sunday. I assume this is rain or shine, si?

Either way, it seems it’ll be an excellent day to ride.

72 degrees and thunderstorms… during winter solstice. You sure this wont be a Climate Ride?

I’m glad I stopped in to this thread – all this time I was thinking the ride was Saturday, except that the ride is on Sunday.

If you get out there early, maybe you can get done before the rain arrives. Anyone up for a dawn patrol?

Well if you start on Saturday, you’ll get to 100 way before everyone else. WINNAR!

Do I wanna swap out my tires (Freedom Ryder 35s) for 28s or 25s or something? That would require going and buying tires :P

    I say “Yes” – go with 25s

Awesome license plate, Kel (though I’m sure your Hyundai is very nice).

I had to look up the rule. Sweeeeeeet!

Kel: I would go with 23s. But, that’s just me talking ;)

For a fast, flat ride like this one, deep-section carbon wheels would be ideal. Something like a Zipp 808, maybe a disc on the rear depending on the wind direction. You should really start stretching the tubulars tonight on the wheels to be ready.
