Hi there, I’m Megan (aka Megabeth here on the forum) and I’m going to be riding around Hains Point loop for 100 miles* on Sunday, December 22nd. I’m doing this to raise awareness and funds for the Washington Area Bicycling Association’s Women & Bicycles program. Come join me for a day of food, festivities, and fun!

Last year, I had a crazy idea. I was going to ride 100 miles around the Hains Point 3-mile loop on a cold December day. I asked the cycling community to join me on that cold December day and the results were beyond my wildest dreams. We had over 100 riders join me throughout the day as well as other friends and supporters that hung out at the pit stop. We had contests, giveaways, hand-ups, freebies from generous sponsors and food.

I’m doing the ride again this year. And, I know it’s going to be bigger and better! WABA’s Women & Bicycles program is now in full swing and it’s been an awesome program.

Sure, I’m riding 100 miles* but *you* can ride as much or as little as you like. Or, you can just show up to participate in the festivities to show your support.

Be sure to visit http://www.HainsPoint100.com for all the ride details and to let me know you’re coming (or donating!) I’ll be posting updates, details and other info here on the forum, as well

    * Actually 115 miles this year because friends took me up on my WABA Membership Challenge where I would ride extra miles this year if they became a new WABA member…thanks, ya’ll.

The forecast keeps getting revised upward. Yesterday, the forecast was 63. Then it changed to 66. (I edited the previous post.) The new forecast is for a high of 70F!

If this trend continues, you may have to worry about heatstroke more than cold fingers.

From wunderground.com: “Considerable cloudiness with occasional rain showers. High 69F. Winds SSW at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 40%.” Quartering tail wind on the Potomac leg! :D

    But that’s a wet 66°F!

Yup, thankfully by then the fenders/mud guards should be on my new bike by then.

    Forecast update:

“Cloudy skies with a few showers later in the day. High 72F. Winds SSW at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 50%.”

At this rate, the forecast will be close to 80F by Saturday. Leave your winter coats and winter bike shoes at home this Sunday.

Probably won’t know if I’m going to make until the last minute…there are some issues complicating our holiday travel plans. Either way, you’ll get some of our money :D

I keep forgetting to sign up except when I’m at work and can’t access Google Docs, but I plan to come in the morning and bring one or two children and zero or one wife.

I accidentally read “zero” as “zebra”. And, got really excited that you were bringing a zebra. Oh well, I’ll be just as excited to see the one or two children and the zero to one wife…

If it’s raining, and 70 degrees, I think I’ll just bring my bike down and give it a good thorough cleaning on the grass and just watch the rest of you go round and round and round…

Time for a WABA bike wash facility in the pit stop? Much better than bike valets!

I thought the idea was to get more people to show up, not fewer…
