Haines point is shut down by the National Guard. They wouldn’t give a reason that a neighborhood park would be shut down.

I wonder if the occupying forces are planning to use that to hold people they arrest for exercising their First Amendment rights during the next few days?

There was another post recently that the area was being used for police staging.

Yesterday, the National Guard stationed to block the entrance to Haines point said that it was shut down for “Covid 19.”

Even they laughed when they said it.

But at least they are not Texas prison guards like the ones ‘protecting’ 10th St NW on Saturday.

Hains Point is wide open, with no closed gates anywhere. I dropped by to check it out this morning and all signs of the Guard were gone.

Hains Point has been shut down again the last few days. I don’t know why.

The vehicle gates have been closed but it’s easy enough to gain access through the gap in the fencing, probably intended for pedestrians. There were quite a few people fishing and running when I was there on Tuesday evening. I did a couple of laps on the bike.

I realized that. I was trying to follow the law because I have been stopped and given a warning or worse so often in the last 40 years by the NPS police. :)

Guess I got lucky!! Wonder what the rationale is for closing the gates

I probably wasn’t clear. Most of the warnings and a ticket have been for not coming to a complete stop at one of three stop signs. I think that I have only been stopped once for going around the barricade. I have also been stopped for not signaling while turning, not being way over to the right in the part outside the gates where I feel I could get hit by an opening door, etc.

Knock on wood, I have not been stopped once this calendar year yet.
