I received a notice that someone tried to log onto my account unsuccessfully multiple times. I looked up the IP address in the notification. (I browsed to Google first and then looked up the address. I didn’t paste the address directly into the browser search/URL bar because that might take me to a malware site.) It appears to be from a location in the Russian Federation.

Has anyone else received a similar message recently? As far as I can tell, the hacker has not been able to get into my account. But if you all start seeing spam posts or off-the-wall posts about Russian highways from my account, then it might be because the hacker got through.

Not the first time this has happened. Apparently the Russians are very keen on the discussions of cycling in the #bikeDC area. Must be all the references to Crazy Ivan.

BTW how do you know someone is trying to log into your account?

I received an automated email message from BikeArlington with the details. I think the notice is sent if multiple unsuccessful login attempts are made within a certain time. (I won’t say exactly how long. While the hackers probably know how long, I won’t make it any easier for the hackers to find this info.)

The message included my account name and the IP address of the person who was trying to login with my user name.
