    Very idyllic. I was actually surprised that only 50% of trips were done by bike given the quality of infrastructure. I guess plain old walking would be a big percentage too.

    It also doesn’t show any hills (actually there is one ramp/overpass around 13:30 where people are walking alongside their bikes). Cargo carrying would be a lot easier on flatlands!

    It also appears to be the city where absolutely nobody wears a helmet. You’d think that at least the babies and toddlers would be required to wear one……..

    When I was in Richmond last weekend there was 100% helmet usage for the Tour of Richmond and a 0% usage anywhere else in the city. There were lots of people on bikes later in the day in the VCU campus area and I only saw one helmet, hanging from the handlebars of a young woman’s bike as she was walking it on a sidewalk.

    When you bike like you walk (relatively slowly, in generally protected areas), you don’t need a helmet.
