Hello everyone! After years of riding around the area and getting deeper and deeper into the local bike scene, riding for Arlington in the National Bike Challenge, seeking every trail I can find, and never missing “Bike to Work Day” (even when its torrential rain), I thought I’d finally get on the forum and introduce myself!

My name is Grace (though for these purposes you can all me “Kitty,” an old nickname). I came to the area about 5 years ago from Michigan for grad school (GWU) and stayed to work. In that time I’ve always lived in Arlington, largely because of how bike-friendly it is!

My love for cycling (and my skill/comfort with it) has only grown each year I’ve been here. It started with just trying to commute everyday and live car-free as a student. It then evolved into exploring the city and surroundings by bike (the only way to travel!), and joining WABA. Now I’m in my third year of the National Bike Challenge and training for my first century! (Tour de Fredrick in August).

Anyway, its nice to meet you all. I hope to see you around–on the road or online!

Surprisingly no one has mentioned all the awesome breweries along the W&OD as convenience stops. There are plenty, starting with Capital City Brewing in Shirlington (at Mile 0) and ending with Adroit Theory and Corcoran in Purcellville at the end of the trail (Mile 44?).

I highly recommend that you stop in and have a tasting or two while you are out there. 😎

Ha! I’ll have to be careful not to have too many our I’ll never make it back!
