Another great stage. And today’s stage winner is the oldest ever winner of a stage at the Giro. 37 y.o. – so remember guys, its not your age!

If your age is news…it’s your age.

And when 37 = “the oldest ever“, I think those of us over 37 are fair in blaming our age…

Chris Horner won the Vuelta a Espana in 2013, a few months shy of his 42nd birthday.

In other endurance sports, Ed Whitlock ran a marathon in under 2 hr 59 min., at the age of 74. He has run a sub-3:16 marathon in his 80s. I think he’s still running. He won’t beat the pro 20 and 30-somethings, but he is beating the vast majority of 20 and 30-somethings out there.

Well, coming back to the race, don’t want to spoil things, but in a grand tour you always have to pay attention to what is happening in the pack!

Happy to see the new pink jersey, less happy at how it happened. Tomorrow is the time trial, will be interesting to see the likes of Contador (who has not been fantastic in TT’s lately) and a youngster like Aru (let us remember he is battling for pink but is also wearing the white jersey of the best young rider)…

First video I found that shows it all… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9DUNA8WKrQ

Oh, and stumbled across this video… a nice way to waste three-odd minutes in your workday. ;)

Always impressed to see the riding from within the group. Fast riding (as it should be at the Giro) despite the conditions. Oh, and views of Campagnolo shifters (10 seconds in). Remember kids, Campagnolo makes everything better.

If you are not into the music, fast forward to 2’15” when it goes to ambient sounds – I love the bit when they pass the school and you hear the cheering kids (the principal in my school back in the home country excused us all from class to see a pro race – the Giro del Lazio – go by and it is still one of my fondest memories from school… although I did get in trouble for getting my smock dirty that day… but I digress!).

And for those on this side of the pond who didn’t have to wear a smock to school, here’s the look (first pic that came up thanks to mr. Google). Up to you to imagine me wearing this in elementary schools. It was so cool… no really.
