ParticipantPretty easy to go up against the contour:
I liked my gopro so much I made sure to buy it at REI so I could return it when it bricked itself or stopped working right, which for me happened to be at Dutch Corner on Alpe d’Huez.

ParticipantHmmmm….. I will have to check this out. In the market for a camera but I haven’t pulled the trigger yet.

ParticipantWow, didn’t hear that about Contour. Pretty surprising.
Here’s a low cost option I’ve been eyeing for a while but haven’t pulled the trigger on. It’s basically a cheaper Chinese clone of the Contour:

ParticipantWell, it can’t be much worse than the Contour… as a Contour owner I’m not too surprised – it sort of seemed liked a cheap Chinese product to begin with despite the nice looking form factor, marketing and packaging. Lipstick on a pig, so to speak.
I used to buy so much stuff on monoprice until I realized I just don’t need that many cables.

ParticipantWe had a Contour, and I thought it was great. Then it was lost on a ride.
Then I bought really cheap ActionShot (or something like that) off of Woot — I think it was $40 for the whole bundle with mounts, etc. It was far from perfect, but it was fine. (I’ve posted a couple videos taken with it). I liked it so much I bought another super cheap Woot deal for a different brand (haven’t even taken that one out of the box yet).
And on vacation, the first cheap camera was lost amongst tall grass in a thankfully-my-nephew-crashed-in-really-tall-grass-and-didn’t-have-a-scratch crash. Husband needed 11 stitches, so we were very thankful the only casualty in nephew’s crash was the camera.
We’ll be sticking with cheap cameras for the foreseeable future.

ParticipantYES YES YES, a camera with GPS that can receive heart rate monitor and all that jazz…. When the price drops another 100-150 bucks I may snatch one up.
Cheap camera are great for when you break & loose, its very true… I like my toys though!

ParticipantSome of the commenters on the CNET article have mentioned the Drift Innovation HD Ghost action camera/camcorder. I had never heard of Drift before. Most of the reviews on Amazon are positive, but there are many reports of short battery life and very slow battery recharging.

ParticipantI am interested in this because it has a built in screen. I had a GoPro for a while and really liked it but having to add on the display screen just added to the cost. It was still a great camera and I hope the best for this product as I think we need more quality option in the market.
