Found a Lake Placid in Maryland. There’s no olympic oval or mountains nearby but it is serene. It’s in a community perhaps appropriately called Lakeland in the Kentlands as there a few other “lakes” there. Not sure if we also need a sign but it is listed in Google Maps.

Extra point for #lakefinding on a folding bike!!!

No signage necessary (this is not #parkfinder after all;-)

Actually, there is a real lake in the photo, just above the bike and the SUV. So if I was desperate my massive puddles on Randall’s Island today would have counted if I took their photo?

    Instead, FS2021 – #lakefinder #2 on 1/2/2021 – The Pool in Central Park

Puddles, if massive enough, may be considered eligible by the faceless cabal, too!!

It’s hard to find open water on Randall’s & Ward’s island, but here are three possible examples to see if they would qualify in the future

     Little Hell Gate Salt Marsh, this is off the Harlem River and might not be considered “impounded”;

Bronx Kill Puddle along the trail by the NYPD gravel parking lot. One of many stretches of standing water on the trails on the Islands. This one remains for several days after a good rain and has been here since at least the pre-Christmas snowfall melt off (two weeks); and

This is part of the Freshwater Meadow next to the Wastewater Treatment Plant (but not discharge therefrom). There is always about two to three feet of water where you see the reeds. They describe it as a wetlands and vernal pool.

Lakefinder #2 – Constitution Gardens Pond

The biggest pond on The Mall. A fun fact that I learned today is that this whole area used to be part of the temporary office buildings until they were demolished in the 70’s. It’s definitely nicer as a pond than office buildings!d8900aac467d9321179df210e0aecd6f.jpg

Pic 1: There’s water in there somewhere?
    Pic 2: definitely!
Pic 3: puddles definitely not massive enough
Pic 4: imagination encouraged, but visual confirmation of impounded water helps!!

Not sure if this counts but the Widewater section along the C&O is always dammed between Great Falls and Old Anglers Inn. It’s so wide here that it looks like a lake!fe64a64d0d1bc46ec78883e92e49fb20.jpg

bikedavid if it is an impounded, massive body of water (bigger than those NYC puddles submitted by consularrider ) then it’s a winner; point granted!!

Well I guess that a snow ⛄️ pile does indeed constitute “impounded water” which is “freely accessible to the public,” so the faceless cabal grants @consularrider his well fought for #lakefinder point!!!!

OK, I live in Minnesota and haven’t not ridden through snow (in fact, lots of not riding because I don’t know how to ride on streets this messy–don’t own a fat-tire bike), so I’ve got this competition in the bag. Good to know!

Nice try sdots and clearly you like to test the boundaries beyond even consularrider but I’m going to have to DQ this one as (1) the boundaries of “impounded water” are not clear, (2) I’m not sure if that is a bike or car wheel in that pic?!:-0

Perhaps I need to move to awarding fractions of a point for intent rather than outcomes, especially re pressure testing the game’s rules [emoji849]

That’s OK. It was all said in jest. The photo is to point out that even cars can’t get over the icebergs that crop up in the bike lane–the car lane is clear, but then you hit 20 feet of that iceberg crap in the bike lane–so there’d be lots of “impounded water” examples if I had a larger field of view in the photo. (Oh, how I miss the “icy” days in MD during BAFS.) I’ll stop being a sarcastic time waster now. There’s only so much of that allowed on a given day, after all.

The more I ride around MoCo, the more that I find that it is a target rich area! I’m not sure if this community is called Fallsgrove but it’s at the intersection of Shady Grove and Darnestown Road. The pond doesn’t have a name but there is a sign and it is also on Google Maps!ed6a1ff7a41fa9520f7d01742c732dbf.jpg014c8d4964968738e87f4731a5acd3d8.jpg

I was riding the Schuylkill River Trail and was having trouble finding an impounded body of water that was freely accessible to the public.

The first was Kernsville Lake, I was above it on Blue Mount Rd, but no way down, and the from the Trail it was restricted.

Then there was a nice farm pond with tons of “POSTED” no trespassing signs.

Third was the Kernsville Desilting Basin, but not much water.

Finally, coming around the corner and heading back to my hotel, I saw some open water that was not fenced off and was not the river or tributary stream.
